Here's the latest. The one is right after she arrived. The other is two days after over two feet of fluffy white stuff.

Rae,

Your AS looks coool or should I say COLD---BRRR. I am glad we are here in FL, even though the temps could be warmer. The canopener went well, Jan and I met some wonderful new friends from all over. We will be at the Florida State Rally (Sarasota) in Feb.,you?

Good luck with your project, we will be watching your progress.

That's a nice looking trailer, Rae....glad it was delivered safely and in one piece. I will send another Airstream rainbow for more good fortune as you get ready to begin the restoration.

Good luck!

The exterior looks to be in nice condition. Im starting with two damaged endcaps as well as a few other blemishes.

Id love to see interior pics if possible. I have a 57 Ohio built Overlander and my bathroom had been altered. Im curious!!!

Enjoy it, I think its beautiful!!!!

Thanks, all I'll get a few interior shots up with a lot more in February, when I am in CT. (right now I'm still in FL, working on my little house). The body panels and endcaps are in really good condition. The little dings and one scrape are character marks, and they'll stay. The interior is mostly intact, but over the years has had some damage from leaks and just good ol' abandonment. I'm going to most likely build new, but I will have great templates. The only part I will need to create from "thin air" will be the front area. I believe the original owners kept it free of built-ins and had the space for portable table/s and chairs. I'm heading toward a slightly wrap-around style sitting area with a table that can be a dinette table as well. Theres quite a bit of space to figure it out, but my thinking is that the area will become the real "living space" and needs to be comfortable. As we all know, there are plenty of days when the weather is less than perfect and snuggling inside is the best option.
I do have a few other modifications planned. The frame is going to be rebuilt or redesigned to carry tanks. I'd also like it to be a bit stronger as when I'm through, the AS is going to weigh more than it did with the original supply- I think, anyway, maybe not by a lot, but...
The forward inside endcap is fiberglass, and I want to template an aluminum one for the inside --like the rear. One of the most exciting things to me was the 13 panels, so I'd like to bring that inside as well.
When I have the inside skins down, I'll rewire and add what new technology I can- I really like the led lights. I do have some of the original light fixtures and will try to use their outer coverings for period detail.
The outside tail lights need some help, and I'm going to have to come up with a door handle, since mine has been taken somewhere along the trailer's history.
So, yes. A project.
I do plan to attend the restoration rally in NM again in June.
But I might not go to too many others because that time needs to go into this old lady!!
The sooner I get to work, the sooner she gets back on the road- and the sooner I can really start camping -- the right way
Rae

I look forward to watching your rebuild. Im about to head out to do some more segment work on the trailer.

It sounds like you are planning to rebuild the trailer without to many changes. Letting my trailer sit in the back yard all summer gave my imagination to much time to run wild and free. The end result is plans to consider a rear door, front bed floor plan. The bathroom will remain where it is and everything else changes.

For now my goal is to get my outside skins in order and the windows rebuilt and weather tight. Im trying to keep my goals realistic. Spring will be here soon and than our other trailer will be asking for attention.

Your interior is the same as ours. Lights, layout and colors. Its neat to see. I look forward to following your progress.

Interior looks nice Rae...it's got the same "finish package" as our '56 Safari did when new - the gold veined marlite sliding doors, painted curved upper cabinets, sconce lights, medicine cabinet, door/drawer pulls, magazine rack...cool! It'll be fun to watch this one come back to life!

I can only hope she will be a fraction of as beautiful as your baby!
The interior on mine isnt too good near the bottom, and the poor bathroom cabinet is beat up, but we'll see. If anything, the interior will make for great templates! I'm definitely going to utilize what I can and at least replicate the basic idea of the original. I am going to add a bit of my own artistic license to the O., but it will definitely be more "traditional" than a contemporary creation.

Well, things on my O are not as pretty as they seem in photos, but that's okay. Most of the veneers are peeling away so it's a definite that everything will be replaced. The aftermost roof hatch flew off in the transport, as I noticed upon arrival in CT a month later. oops. A bit of weather invited itself in. Well... can't hurt anything, at least!

Im sorry to here that the weather got in. Thank you for posting the interior photos. The bathroom in my Overlander was gutted when I received it, yours looks original

Your skins and windows look to be in nice shape and The photos make it look like you have a lot of cabinet hardware to work with. I think youve got a great starting point for an awesome project. Maybe Im biased!

Thanks for the encouragement! Yes, everything is original. This old trailer was used a lot in her early days and probably well-loved. Then her owners got old and the gentleman passed on. I'm not sure if his wife used the trailer after that, but she did re-register it in her name. When she died, it went to her children, but as far as I know it never went anywhere. At some point, the son took some of the parts off the trailer and was putting them on a newer '57 of his own. So, I'm missing a few things. Heater, stove parts, lamp covers, doorhandle... But, I'm not discouraged because what I can't find, I will beg to borrow from someone so I can reproduce! There's a fantastic shop nearby that I've made castings for vintage boat parts in bronze before. I know the owner works in other metals as well, so I'm sure I can come up with a solution if I can't find, say, a door handle.
If you want other bath shots let me know. Or if anyone wants any details of something, please ask. I'm going to document everything but I won't plug up the forums with every single photo
The windows are one of the reasons I was so intrigued by this trailer. A few have latches missing on the inside, but the frames are in great shape. The little eyebrow gutters are all nice. The door in a door, even with a few things missing, is in good shape. The outside body skins are swell. I have a couple of scuff marks and a small dent or two but they're character. I don't plan on breaching the outer skin if at all possible.
With the floor as rotten as it is, it's going to be "easy" to take apart. Easier, anyway! The entire front end is already detached. Surprisingly, the bathroom area is not too bad for leaks.
I'm going to be able to use the interior for great templates. Nothing is really salvageable because the veneer is shot. The weather hot-cold and so on has just baked and humidified it apart.
Overall it's a nice unit, and I'm very honored to own her!!
Rae
