I am closing a deal on a 1957 Overlander, vin is 26-7178. There are 2 weights listed on line at vintageairstream.com , but this vin isn't in either range listed their...some sites show 3180 lbs, some show 3850 and airstream.com shows 3180 for all models....how do I know which is right? My tow limit is 4500, so 600 lbs matters a lot! Thanks!
Look at Tinman54's thread. He has a 54 Crusier and he put it on a scale not to long ago. I dont know the actual weight but I have a 57 Ohio built Overlander and it is very light.

Dougs trailer, a single axel, weighs 2060lbs. That weight is a body and frame only, there is no interior in the trailer
Seems like the Ohio overlanders were 600 lbs lighter? Doesn't make sense, so wondering if it is just a misprint? Checked out those other posts, seems like 3800 would be really heavy for similar sizes and styles.

Hi neighbor, From the vin number you posted it looks like you really have a 1956 Overlander. Look here 56Overlander.
This pdf will give you a good idea on the stock dry weight of the Overlander.
Ok- Cools...So this is a 56, Ohio? The name plate says it came from the California factory but it is not a whale tale....but it does have the tear drop shaped wheel wells. So, if it is a double axle 56 then what would it weigh? Still can't find any numbers. I'm guessing 3500 lbs
The pictures help a lot. With the 7 panels and the tear drop wheel wells I would say it is a very late 57 or most likely a early 58. Look here 58Overlander "California | 7000+/also 267NNN late"
Ah ha! That looks totally right. So it must weight 3850. Dang, was hoping for the lighter model, but still it'll work out fine. Planning on a redoing the interior anyway so I'll seek out lightweight materials to keep the tow weight within limits.

Hi Mark, Don't get to hung up on these numbers until you can put the Airstream on the scale to see where you're really at. You might be surprised.

Your Airstream is a 1958 26' Overlander with the International trim package, built in summer 1958 at the California factory. The first California Overlander to have the "26" prefix (which denotes overall length) in its serial number was 26-7123 built on April 28, 1958. Your Overlander 26-7178 is 64 numbers later. I think the last Overlander built during the 1958 model year was 26-7200 finished on 9-02-58. So by interpolation yours might have been built in July or August 1958.
The Land Yacht emblem on your Airstream indicates your trailer was fully self-contained (by 1958 standards). The International emblems on your Airstream indicate it had the top-of-the-line trim and accessories, and was the most fully-equipped trailer Airstream built that year.
The upcoming Spring 2012 issue of Airstream Life magazine will have a brief article on 1958 Airstreams, so you might consider purchasing a copy. In my opinion, you have a very desirable Airstream that is worthy of a nice restoration. But have fun with it however you decide to proceed.
