Deb, I posted in Becky's thread below about a guy that used a linear actuator in a van. Post 12. Interesting reading, can't wait to see what Melody Ranch does.

Every time I see the words " linear actuator slide out", I get almost giddy!

Thanks, Shelly, for posting that link, I wasn't aware of that thread.

That is so cool! As someone else said, there would have to be a way of having an override or something so that if it stopped working, you could still manually pull out/push back the bed, so as not to ruin a camping trip.

I, too, am anxious to see how Robin works this out.

Someone is giving away a motorized seat/bed from a conversion van, on the Atlanta Craigslist today just in case anyone is looking for those motors!

I should be camping

Weather changed here in Texas. (Is that news?) 70 degrees plus all week. I am locked into getting the Bubble back in one big pile so I elected to work it instead. I am seeing things come together.

You're raising the bar somewhat here, as I was just going to use gas struts. I guess its going to cost a little more cash to "keep up with the Jones". You going to use one or two?

Hi Kip....going to use three heavy duty ball bearing drawer slides (overkill) and the 22inch actuator. The bed will never have to be moved out or in with any significant weight on the platform so it all should work well. My project today will be to figure out a "pull pin" so I have an emergency release in case of power or mechanical failures.

I understand now, you are moving horizontally not vertically. I'm planning on the bed frame lifting with gas struts, maybe if I used both I could get by with a smaller actuator. Something to think about.

renewed respect for propane bottles

I have heard many stories of propane bottles falling out of the mount, then being dragged on the pavement. We should avoid that....You won't believe the damage this tiny fender bender causes | The best damn Funny Videos, and Crazy Pictures online!

back at the Ranch....the bed

The side portion of the bed, the sliding part is almost done now. You can see the linear actuator here. The maple facing and drawer faces are next.

I understand about the linear actuator now, sort of. How do the two sides end up being on the same level, does one drop down or move up?

Upon looking at your picture above again, I realize you probably acquired another Airstream? She looks nice too, what is she?

That's the HOT rally where I got lost, at 2:00 am. In the moonless dark of night, I missed the last "turn here" sign the HOT folks had put up. After driving / towing for +/- 4 hours ~ late at night w/ no moon, driving quite a few miles on narrow gravel roads, crossing several "old style" Texas rural country wooden bridges and totally lost at 2: am - I came upon the above mentioned Bethel Fundimental Baptist Church . The "scene"? I'm really tired, & frustrated. The mind wanders a bit. I'm thinking of just pulling into the church's parking area & getting a few hours sleep until the sun comes up. Remember I said "the mind wanders"? Well, all I can envision are weekend afternoon services, featuring men dressed in all white polyester suits, white belts, white socks & white shoes . . . and snakes!! Lots of very loud joyous praying (I think?), lots of folks being healed, and . . . snakes. Did I tell you I hate snakes . . .? So I just kept going & finally found myself somewhere outside the LBJ Grasslands National Park and in the outskirts of some small town. Found a wide spot & took a nap & finally found the rally the next morning.

And that folks is the day I first met Mr. Melody Ranch. It was a tad chilly & very high gusts of wind (the big tent almost blew down) & I had to run my Honda generator all night so I could run my furnace!!!!

Good ta meet'cha Mr. Melody Ranch!! We've been good buddys ever since. But let's don't talk Bethel Fundimental Baptist Church any more . . . .

moved things inside for a fit check

Finished up the basic sliding bed. Need to install the drawer faces and some more electrical planning.

Also got the black tank back from the corrective rebuild at Inca. Hated to cut a hole in the floor and belly pan, but I did and the tank is is position now. That done, I can now work on the toilets wall and sliding door. Then comes the staining and finish work.

Everything looks great, Robin. I have to say, I'm really jealous of your bed. I'm not sure if I can retro-fit mine with the actuator. I built mine to sit atop of the wheel well & it already sits pretty high. I'll have to mull it over. When you're all finished with the electric, you have to take a movie of your sweet bed & post it! I also love that you chose maple with character. Looks really nice!
