1956 SOTR - YES!!! Got it!

Some of you know that I've had my eye out for double axle 50's vintage trailer for about a year now. And a few of you already know that I've been blessed with way more than I had dreamed -- a California 1956 Sovereign of the Road. Y'all, I'm SO EXCITED!

This has been in the works since July. Long story short, we arrived in Dallas TX on Tuesday to finally complete the deal. Got it ready to tow today and hope to leave in the AM. Just going to do 300 miles a day back to Tennessee and try to stay behind the weather front.

Many thanks to REDNAX for sharing Dallas area Airstream service center info should I need it, to streamer23 for researching the trailer's WBCCI history, and to 47WeeWind for positively identifying my particular trailer as a California SOTR instead of a Liner or custom job.

I'm exhausted but can barely sleep.

Quick Pics

Here's just a couple of photos. Haven't had time to get many. These were taken near dark last night.

It's rough, but a diamond in the rough. Lots will need to be done. The plastic tote turned over the roof vent gives a clue. I'm amazed it looks as good as it does.

Thanks G. I think this one is a "him". This little 'ol trailer from Texas is as big as Elvis. It's just begging me to call it Elvis. I don't usually name inannimate objects but I'm going to take exception this once. 1956 was a landmark year for Elvis. No Elvis-themed shrine here, though. It will be restored in the vintage Airstream tradition with a 21st century edge.

Hey, it's got a pink bathtub. Elvis had pink Cadillacs, didn't he?

Very nice.... very nice. I am just a little jealous I have to admit. Once you get a chance could you snap a photo of the painting by the door. I am curious as to what it says. Lettering on the trailers is making a come back and I am always curious to see how it was done originally. So will we see him at CBR this year?

Nice work Dacia, you finally got the 13 panels you wanted, and a whale tail to boot!

There's only one word to describe that trailer: "hot."

Well, maybe if I were from Boston it would be "wicked-awesome" or somesuch.

Fantastic find. I'm more than a little bit envious! \

Congratulations.

It's a hunk-a-burning trailer.

Now you need a 1950s International A-series to pull it.

Congrats.

To Those Who Wait......

Dacia,
I know you have been looking for another one for a long time. The whale tail is a very cool feature of this large Sovereign. I am so happy for you. I never knew you were looking for the larger trailer. In these tough economic times, silver is the investment value we should depend on. The trailer looks great and I am sure you'll have it on the mend in short order. What does the trailer need? Keep us posted and have a safe trip back to TN. We'll want plenty of pictures if you don't bring it to Falluminum.

It IS "wicked awesome".

I might even go so far as to say, "its wicked pissah!".

Nice looking trailer, Dacia. I really like the Wal-Mart vent cover, I hope the interior hasn't suffered too much from a lack of a cover there.
BTW, you're towing Elvis the wrong way, California is the opposite direction!

When I moved from Massachussetts at age 18 to Mississippi, saying "wicked' and "pissah" was one of the first things I had to stop doing.
