So any way, I have spoken to the friend/vendor with the shop and the awesome fab guy, and they agreed that I can bring Ike over and see what we got and at the very least get him towable for the 90 + mile route home. Starting to get excited about this and can't wait to see what the frame is going to look like as far as reapair or remake. Now all I have to do is get Ike to the shop. This has been somewhat interesting since Ike can not be towed he must be "hauled". Best quote so far to pick him up and take him the 50 miles to the shop is $300.00. And unless someone does not have a better idea, than that is what I have to do.

I imagine that "Rhonda" will start a new thread in a week or so and ya'll can track my progress and offer up any tips, help, parts or advice. Yes Ralph that goes for you as well, especially when it comes time for that axle. w)

If it were me, as long as the tires held air and rolled, the hitch locked on to a ball and was not cracked, I'd tow it myself. But $300.00 does not sound bad to have it moved for you.

Uh, no!

The hitch may lock onto the ball...but the tongue may be the only thing that follows! I believe they said the tongue is busted and there may be other frame damage as well - no way, no how it can be towed in that condition! See pictures in post #9, comments in post #20 & other early discussion in this thread.

$300 sounds like a great deal to move it to me. I would be curious how they will get the trailer up onto the truck...they usually use a wench...can the frame handle that?

Rhonda,

Rob Baker (robandzoe) had some mid bunks made for his '58 Sovereign. Check out his blog for details.

Well all we spent a few hours the '56 today, after a spin through Airboss HQ, and I have a few new pics to post. We spent a good amount of time just cleaning out the stuff (old tires and boards) from underneath and arounf the trailer to get it ready to move. I actually did hitch the trailer and moved it forward about 20' and then back off to side from where it was. Ominous to say the least, old crusty bearings squealing, front darn near dragging the ground (it actually did in few spots) but all in all the trailer actually behaved well all things considered. The lovely Rhonda was a my spotter and aide for this manuever and things worked out to our liking. Some pleasant surprises like the tounge jack actually worked well, and both tires albeit completely shot held air. The street side wheel is an original split rim while the curb side is a newer automotive type with a normal passenger car tire on it. Notice the crack in the A-Frame that has cuased the tounge to bend upwards, I only had a an inch or less of ground clearance at the bottom of the jack once I got it on the ball. The trailer still has its original Bargman No. 9's and the original Bargman No.4.
