Actually, I made good progress for my first day...all the drawers (8) are stripped and ready to be re-finished. All the doors are out ready to be stripped tomorrow. I also, just for grins, stripped one of the overhead sliding doors...they are masonite with paint and wallpaper, underneath is a cool gold & white wrinkled-paint-texture masonite. Unfortunately, to remove the paint & wallpaper - it damages the masonite (white at edges) - we were planning on replacing those anyway, but it's pretty cool and I wanted to see what was there.
The best thing all day was being able to strip the paint from the cool fiberglass sconce shades without damaging them...now I just have to strip the housing & put them back together.
We also got rid of the foam (eeeeuuuuwww!) and curtains.
Not bad for a day's work...
Shari

Shari: I love those liberated sconce shades - they are very mid-Fifties! The top and bottom edges of the overhead closet doors might be out of sight when the doors are installed, so you might be able to use them until their replacements come along. It's so joyful to see Birdie being rescued from her earlier exposure to that Valdez spill of latex ...

After all the work it must be very gratifying to be able to rescue very visible pieces like the lampshade Shari. It's those things, when the trailer is put back together, that make the difference between a redone trailer and a committed effort to make it "just right".
All of the original pieces were long gone from our '51 when acquired but we are always watching for them when we hit flea markets and older RV parts places.
It will be interesting to see what else you can rescue.
And about Maxwell - oops, sorry if I started something there . We know you'll shower him with attention when he gets back home and all will be forgiven.

I actually wish they were salvageable...they are very cool, better than the picture - but way too much work to strip the paper backed vinyl wallpaper & paint for just temporary use. We'll either leave the green and flip the doors around - the backs are okay...except the heavy-duty packing tape on the edges of the wall paper or get new ones right away. We are still in the discovery stage, trying to prioritize our purchases. Although, today I am buying my curtain fabric...it's "perfect" and I don't want it to be unavailable when I'm ready for it.

You are right! Another gratifying tidbit was that "they" didn't sand the cabinets down before painting...so when I get through the goo...the wood is undamaged so far. Small victories...like eating an elephant.
We actually are having a good time...no worries, we know it can only get better!

Isn't it gratifying to see how much you can get done in a day? Good for you!
Can't wait to see the pictures of the fabric for the curtains and the upholstery!!

I haven't picked everything out yet...so many options! Just the curtain fabric because it will be the perfect blend of "old" and "new" interior schemes...<hint> not much aqua this time
I'll post it when all the pieces are identified ~ I've got plenty of time.

I love the Hollywood green...that's almost identical to the aqua (curtains, melmac, upholstery, accents, etc) I have in Maxwell now.
I'm gonna change things up a little bit this time in Birdy...
