OMG - that is gorgeous!!! Now you can't just post a single picture without any details or any additional photos, that's bad form. Details, we want details. Now, that being said, that is gorgeous!!!

Well! That is a nice looking 63.

Looks familiar. Did this come from Florida?

Yep, we bought it from Herb & Sidra Spies. It's a 1963 Chevy Suburban Carry-All with a totally new I-don't-know-the-details-but-Herb-and-Rob-do Tahoe motor & lots of mods for towing. More pics & details to follow...all I know is we are pretty excited to be the new caretakers of this cool truck!

Congratulations Shari - these make gorgeous TV's. I know two couples in the PNW who tow with theirs and they are quite a sight to see. Both are nicely done for towing, and they are used often and seen at many events in the area. And there's another, the older style (1950) who tow a matching Argosy and it too is outstanding as a TV and for looking the part. You will get asked a lot by folks at gas stations and CG's whether you bought it new. Lots of fun.

Towing with vintage is tremendous fun. To restate Bill's comment - "welcome aboard"

Thanks all - we are really looking forward to the new experience! As if the trailer wasn't enough of a conversation starter on the road!

wow - oh wow!

That is so awesome. Absolutely stunning and so VERY VERY cool!

I am envious, as a matter of fact we were discussing the potential of towing with something vintage this weekend, but that is a ways down the schedule.

Yay for Birdie!!

Congratulations!

And I like the vintage stock wheel and hub cap look better than the razzle-dazzle ones pictured on the POs link.

Okay, so details...we have known Herb & Sidra for several years now and always chatted about their Chevys and involvement with the Chevy clubs. Rob also followed along as Herb was working on the Burb and modifying it with modern conveniences. In the meantime, Rob found a similar original Burb here in town that is owned by the original purchasers, thinking that maybe he could do the same "someday". So he approached them and offered to buy theirs if/when they were willing to sell. He has kept in touch for a couple of years now, contacting them every couple of months or so. Unfortunately, they are pretty attached and not ready to sell yet.

While at the RMVAC Rally this summer, Herb casually mentioned he was thinking of selling his for a "new project". Rob just outright said, "we'll take it!" THEN he came and asked me if I wanted it too and of course I said "yes" - and the rest is history! H&S happened to be attending a Chevy Show out this way (well, sort of it you call Flagstaff "in the neighborhood") and brought it out to us this weekend - along with a Platinum 1st place Award they won at the show! We had agreed to the terms of the sale (sight unseen!) over the last couple of weeks and we are THRILLED to be the new owners. Knowing Herb did the resto confident that things are done well. The best news is, we can leave our "local Burb owners" alone and don't have to take on the project ourselves! We'll have to drive by their house though and show them we got one now too!

We plan on taking Birdy & the Burb out for a spin before tucking her away for the winter, Oct. 22-24 (weather permitting). Can't wait!

I'll have to get more pics from Rob...Herb took a TON and has sent them to us over the last couple of weeks.

Shari

Here's a link to the pics Herb sent for us to "see" the truck before committing...needless to say, they were good enough to feel confident buying it sight unseen!

What an awesome find!! Herb did a great job of upgrading this vehicle as well as documenting his efforts. Nice addition to the fleet. What's next now that both trailers and your new vintage tow vehicle are done?

BTW - you may want to seal or cover that wood from underneath with metal.

We actually are working on Maxwell right now - changed out the BT pan, repaired a few minor pinholes in the BT and re-built the Swirl-O-Matic toilet. We hope to get it all put back together this weekend. Then replace the window seals and re-polish. We have an outing planned for the 22-24th with both trailers going out to play...then...???

Shari, you have a lovely trailer! (Actually, two of them, but who's counting...)

How well does Birdy's unique floorplan work out for you when camping? We love our Minuet, but the concept of two fixed twins and a dinette, all in 22-feet, is mighty tempting...

Shari - its been a while since I checked - I like the new ride! I have special interest because I'm putting together a new ride myself - a 39 Buick - I'll give you the whole scoop when I see y'all - long story short it came together the weekend of the RMVAC rally too! Hmmm seems to be the trend amoung my Airstream friends - have old trailer - restore trialer - what do we do now - go camping - what do we do now - buy vintage camping stuff - what do we do now - buy old vehicle to tow old camper and old camping stuff! AH yes we are nuts!

Thanks for the kudos Tom! We LOVE Birdy's layout. It is so nice on longer trips to not have to do the doe-si-doe of making up/down the bed every morning/night as with Maxwell. But we also LOVE Maxwell too for being a bit smaller - great for off-road kinda trips. Birdy is also great for entertaining because we can use the beds as couches in a living room during in-climate weather. The front kitchen/bath is unappealing to some, but we have gotten used to the layout and it's no problem for us. There aren't too many models with all the features of the Safari front kitchen layout...happy hunting!

Nice. You just repainted the old ones. Excellent job! My 55 Safari doesn't have that plate. I checked VTS and they don't have one either.
No big deal.

As for the missing stove & fridge. I am pondering different Ideas. Someone remodeled the trailer years ago. They put in a Norcold electric kitchen. It is a one piece cooktop, sink & fridge. I was told it still works. This was installed behind the front bathroom. I think the dinette was moved back a few feet to accomodate this. The bathroom wall & door is just painted plywood. The bathroom is just a toilet mounted over a hole in the floor. No bathroom sink. The original kitchen sink & countertop is still there, with a big opening where the fridge used to be.

I may just remodel. I don't really like the front bath. After I strip the paint. The front endcap aluminum "fan" should be beautiful. I think I will want to show it off.

Right now I'm looking at some different threads, including yours, to get ideas and courage. I'm blown away by the amazing work that people are doing.
