Hi Dallas:
Yea, he first appeared in post 492. I've been keeping a beady eye on him ever since. Yet, I find myself taking a shine to the hooded fella.

Actu uuu-al-lllly Fred, his first appearance as a polisher was back in post #476...but he made his debut way back in #272 as a Zolatone shooter!

All our hard work has been recognized in Gillette at the International Rally....we achieved a 50's Decade "Platinum Award" (99.5 out of 101 points possible), Best Engineered Feature and tied for the Bud Cooper "Best in Show" award with Mark & Patti Carr's 1936 Clipper!

Congratulations on your awards! I am wondering what 1.5 points did you miss though? They must have worked hard to find something wrong!

Congratulations to you Shari and the Birka Buffer! Platinum award is great....but maybe next year with some more hard work you can win the Aluminum Award!
But really, was there any doubt you would own this decade after all your hard work?
What feature did you win for the "best engineered feature" on your trailer?

Shari & Rob:
Woo Hoo!! Congratulations on all your awards! Birdy is really a special trailer, a labor of love topped by a Ninja shine. Mark and Patti must have done a spectacular job on their '36 Clipper to tie you, and Congratulations to them too. Was the Precision Temp the best engineered feature? Safe travels home.

Congratulations on the awards! You have done a fantastic job with Birdie and there is no question that she is an award winner. Betty is a cutie as well...

Awesome!
Congratulations to both of you! I can't imagine where that 1.5 points were taken either. Birdy is the perfect little trailer and your awards are well-deserved.

That trailer is so shiny the judge(s) probably saw their reflection in it, scared the bejabbers out of themselves (I look THAT OLD?) and thus docked them 1.5 points - the cost of having their underwear cleaned by the "staff" .
It doesn't matter what someone else thinks of your trailer, to most of us it is absolutely beyond perfect and you deserve kudo's for all your hard work and determination to make a trailer that you can enjoy and be proud of at the same time.
Having watched the build out of your trailer here it is really neat to know you are now out enjoying it.

Thanks all!
We did receive a copy of the score sheets and the 1.5 points were missed were:
1) .5 for the Exterior Skins - we have a crease on the back panel @ the window that is a "wink" line that we left rather than replace the panel
2) .5 for the Galley Area - we have a 1/4" chip in the porcelain sink
3) .5 for the Belly Pan - there were two belly pan judges, Rob was one of them so he stepped aside when judging our trailer. The other judge thought there were "patches" to the belly pan when in actuality they are access panels to the plumbing and are original.
We were THRILLED we even got to 99.5 points, so there were no hard feelings at all...as a matter of fact, we figured the Carr's Clipper would win, so we were happy to tie! It all worked out for the best...we would have felt horrible if they didn't win too!
As far as being " completely done with the refurb"...are they ever done?! No, Rob still wants to work on the polishing some more - it was kind of a "hurry-scurry" at the end and he is not quite satisfied with it yet...but it's close! Should be done by the RMVAC Rally ~

I didn't get around to other trailers during the Open House ...Rob was a judge, so I had to stay by ours the entire time...we had over 350 people visit! There were lots of great trailers in attendence though - I was able to sneak peeks at other times. I'm sure others took pictures during open house though and will post them somewhere.

The Best Engineered Feature was our installation of the Precision Temp water heater. Not just the heater itself, but the installation to maximize the space under the kitchen counter in the front curved corner. By installing it with flexible fittings and mounting it on drawer glides it is able to be pulled out or removed for service pretty easily. Also, we didn't add any additional vents on the shell - it has a power assisted vent through the floor.

The both of you, as well as Birdie, should be so proud. This is a fantastic accomplishment and so well deserved. Its hard now to think back and envision all of those flower patterns. What a transformation. How about some add'l pictures of this best engineered feature?
