1954 Romany Cruiser

Seeing as how there isn't a forum for the 1954 Romany I thought I would post here.

Just moved this to the house after buying it for Roy Lupien in Waldoboro, Maine. It is a 1954 Romany Cruiser #04155. It is in rough shape and we are looking forward to renovating it. Roy had already made a sub-floor system for it and included it in the price. Missing a vent, a window, all the major appliances and a toilet. The woodwork is trash and the old sub-floor has to be removed.

Love adventure.

Steve

Wow - awesome find - do you know any more history on it? It's interesting to find out about a Romany Cruiser. I know that when Avion Travel Trailers first started, they called their company Romany Trailers after the traveling gypsies, but apparently the Romanies picketed the factory as they didn't like it very much. So they changed the name to Avion.

Looking forward to more photos and your progress!

Tina

I asked Roy and he said he found it in Conneticut by Bridgeport. He didn't have further information.

Looks like I broke the link to the picture. Check out my registry, I added more pictures.

Roy made a floor out of aircraft balsa and fiberglass. It is one piece with a flange that fits around the frame. The body of the camper needs to be lifted off the frame. The new floor fits like a cap over the frame. The body can then be dropped back on.

Maybe "system" was the wrong choice. :-)

I'm pleased to say Vintage Trailer Supply has (like, just) added a pre-purachse page for those clearance marker lights on the Romany.

There aren't many of us with that larger style light, so I thought you'd like to know!

Thanks Brad, that is good news. I am planning to order parts from there and will use the pre order.

Hmmm....I am not certain if I have a Romany or not. Vintageairstream.com claims that only 10 Romany were made in 1955. My model number lands in the sequence for a 1954 Cruiser. Service.airstream.com has the Romany Cruiser being made in 1954. My floor plan mostly matches the Romany Cruiser available there. Oh Well, it is going to be a fun project. :-)
