Question 1955 ??????

Lasty week I bought a (titled - ser # 4109 1955, Airstream, Model Silv) . I realize that there probably isn't a "silv" model. I have only found the Globe Trotter and Wanderer. The beautiful girl is 19' , with a body lenght of 16'. It has a round pipe tounge with the serial # stamper into it. No other maker plates or anything. It has a 4 burner Dixie Propane stove. Marvel fridge.
A gentleman e-mailed me back from another site and said it was a Silver Streak, but I am try to get a definitive answer.
The differences I have come across between mine and period Airstreams is 1) the siding above the wheel wells has a raised groove the lenght of the sides, every 6". 2) The tounge is different than the period Airstreams. 3) The taillights are set beyond the outer edge of the rear windows. 4) The door is left hand hinged. 5) The serial #'s for Airstreams of that era do not corrospond with mine.
As a restorer of wood boats, this is my first Travel Trailer. Not knowing the initial basics of what mine is, I will have a difficult time in researching the correct info for a proper restoration. If anyone can help me or pass along to someone who can, I would be eternally grateful. I have attached some photos. Patrick

I think it's a Silver Streak, not an Airstream....very cool though! The different window style, center roof panel and panel where the curved and straight portions come together are the biggest clues...

Check out the Vintage Airstream Archives and your see alot of the Airstream models made.

Here's a couple of links to Silver Streak websites...although your welcome to hang out here!

Iowa Boys has one...

Tom Patterson's site... but this page is broken right now...check back later.

This one is an older body style, but really cool! It's been totally restored...

Regardless of what it is...enjoy it!

Shari

Talking 1955?????

I just found it on Vintage Vacations@msn groups. Someone had posted some old ads. It is a 1955 Silverstreak Jet 19'. How in the world it was titled an Airstream I'll never know. But, yes it is too cool. and look forward to useing it and hooking up with other travelers. Thanks again, Patrick

Probably just got mis-labeled at the DMV...Airstream is/was the most recognized name brand...kinda like Kleenex & Xerox, I suppose....

Lightbulb Silver Streak Man

It is a fine looking unit. The barn is pretty neat looking as well.
There is a guy in East Texas who is an authority on Silver Streaks if my memory and notes serve me right.

Bob Ashby is his name. I will PM you his phone number. If he has a email address I would appreciate you PMing it back to me.
I hope he is still at the number and well. Let me know what you find.

Hi Folks,
I have a Silver Steak just like the one shown with a serial number of 4144 that was my Grandfather's. People come by from time to time trying to buy it from me and up till now I wasn't interested. The trailer is in excellent shape inside and out and I don't see any alterations. I was hoping someone could give me an idea on what would be a fair price to ask for it?

Welcome!

Silver Streak is a nice trailer. Are you sure you what to sell it? Take a look at the Tin Can Tourists. You could try a Google or Craigs List search too.
