Picking up our '52 tomorrow

My coworkers seem underwhelmed by the fact that we're leaving today to pick up our '52 Flying Cloud from the repair shop in Ohio. I thought I'd post here where people will understand. We had a fair amount of work done: new axle, new a/c, new plumbing, new fresh water tank, updated electrical, updated propane system, and a few cosmetic repairs as well, but we still have a lot to go. Our excitement is tempered by the fact that the shop couldn't (or wouldn't) repair a crease across some of the rounded panels above the rear window. Hopefully we'll be able to find someone who can do that work for us down the road, but for now we're just ready to enjoy using the trailer for a while. I'll post pics once we have her in our possession, and safely back in New Orleans.

Wish us newbies luck,

tony

Oh boy, another Flying Cloud comes to the party. Looking forward to seeing your pictures. Got any "befores" you can share now?

Just posted some pics

I posted a couple of pics in the 1950's photo gallery. I think this is a link to them: http://www.airforums.com/photos/brow...?c=501&userid=
I'll post a link to my flickr account once I upload all the images.

The VIN# on our unit is 7294. Does this tell me anything other than it was made in California? I was actually on the vintageairstream photo page looking at the examples of other '52's and they have pics of #7295. It looks nothing like mine, which I guess goes to show how customized they were back then.

The white slip covers on the front couch are covering what appears to be the original red upholstery for the couch. when we were picking the trailer up from P&S. We're still uncertain as to whether the couch is original. It folds out into a sleeper (which you'll see in my flickr stream) and fits into the front of the trailer so perfectly it's hard to believe someone could find such a custom fit in a non-stock piece of furniture, but who knows. The red table is period, and looks like other tables I've seen in pics, but the finish doesn't match the countertops in the galley. Maybe they chose a red table to go with the red couches. Who knows.

Lots of work to be done. There are more soft spots in the floor than we previously thought, and the fridge compressor isn't kicking on. Add those things to our already lengthy list of updgrades, and it appears I didn't simply by a trailer. I bought a new hobby that's going to last me a lifetime.

Tony

What a great looking trailer. Looks like someone extended the tongue and put a cover over something. What's under there? I see the battery is on the curbside of the added storage box. Possibly a generator? I don't see a place for it to vent if that's the case.

Congrats.
