Join the club -- buy a Flying Cloud!

Here's one to add to your registry. I've been sitting on a 1953 Flying Cloud for a few months. I was hoping to take it on as a project later this year but it doesn't look like that will happen, so it's for sale. Maybe a Flying Cloud wannabee reading this thread would be interested in it. If so, you can see photos of it as found in our Flickr photo album.

This is FC serial #7390.

Since the photos were taken, the trailer has been moved to GSM Vehicles in Plattsburgh NY, cleaned up a bit, and otherwise left alone. Anyone who is interested in it can contact me.

Hi Captain,

My wife and I just bought one.

1962 Flying Cloud

Stephen McPheters and Barbara Skelton
Freeport, ME

Anyone have the owners manual they can send me a copy of?

Thanks for the additional units. Rich that will be a great project for some one soon I am sure.

Stephen that is a sweet 82 you have there. The shine makes me so jealous.

OK who else is hiding a Flying Cloud out there?

One of the "finds" as noted in the found homeless pictures yesterday is a Flying Cloud s/n 7986. It is a shell needing a frame and total restoration. It is the second one on the left in the picture.

Thanks,
Barry

Barry, is that a 1955 or 1956? There is some confusion about when the change over was?

Greg,

We don't know. He has no title with the trailer, has owned it more than ten years, and it has been a storage shed for much of that time and I suspect even before he acquired it. He had no idea of the age of the trailer other than that it's an old one. We had figured it as a '55 but were just best guessing. That was based on a '55 26' unit we found that was right on the line as well for numbers but the owner had it registered as a '55.

If you don't have a '56 with a serial number lower than this one I'd suggest it's a '55.

Captain Jones, What a wonderful project. Do you know if there is a listing for Globetrotters?

add another '52

I still have only seen photos of my trailer but today we found the title. That was a relief. So add another '52 to the list. vin #7214.
By the pictures I figured it was a 51 or 52 and now I know. I will be in Kansas probably by the weekend and finally get to see it. I will take pictures and post as I find wifi locations.
I've not had much experience RV'ing but am enjoying the trip alot. So far I want to give kudos to the new owners of the KOA camp ground at Montpilier Idaho. It's a beautiful place and well taken care of. Right now I am in Colorado Springs at the Garden of the Gods Campground and again am really impressed.
Look forward to when my own trailer is making these trips.
Brian

Capt...great idea and thanks for doing this. I have a general question that I've been searching for an answer for awhile to no avail. The question is regarding the floorplan of the early 1954 models. I own serial number O3188, and have a front kitchen, streetside dinette and rear twins layout which I heard is very unusual for a FC. Does anyone else have this layout in their FC? I'd love to hear from the owner of serial number O3202 because that is so close to my serial number (only 14 units after mine).

Aria, I don't know of anyone trying to make a listing of Globetrotters, but you can start one.

Brian, congratulations on your adventure. I have added you to the list.

Yukionna, I don't know the owner of O3202. I found it on Vintage Airstream. The link is 54FC0-3202
If you want to look at it.

Keep the numbers coming. We are up to 58, but I know there are many many more out there.

Greg

I am hopefully going to look at another one next week with my buddy who is in hot pursuit of one. We believe it's a '51 but won't know for sure till we see the S/N. They are coming out of the woodwork which is great. We just need to find one that fits his requirements.

What are his requirements?

He has a '54 Ford stationwagon he wants to use to tow (completely upgraded) so he wants a 13 panel, preferably a '53-56, and he needs to be able to easily convert it to twins if it doesn't have them. He realizes he'll need to do his own toilet install, etc, so finding the right floor plan that allows for twins and a toilet is the important part. The other factor is distance to acquire it. Like myself he has health restrictions so travelling more than a day out of the province of BC is quite risky. Thus, this keeps us looking in the OR, WA and BC arena's. We are hopefully looking at a rig Thurs or Frid of this week that may be what he needs.

He's currently towing a 17' Boler with the '54 as well as with his '35 Ford hot rod. He's quite an accomplished restorer/rebuilder of all things mechanical, including trailers, but due to health issues he can't take on the same size of projects he has in the past. No body-off's for him anymore. He's also a perfectionist so that just adds to the complexity. They are a great couple and will be a great addition to the Airstream world if he can find the right unit.

Of course never being one to pass up an opportunity to give him a poke about how old he is I also keep telling him he needs to find a project that will be done in less time than he has life left......hey, isn't that what good friends are for?????

Flying Clouds

Greg,
I'm new to the forum and am happy to see so many people with Flying Clouds! My just started project is a 1958 (I believe) Flying Cloud Serial #22-8593 located in Southern California. I don't have a "Flying Cloud" name on the trailer, but it matches floorplans I have seen of 57s and 58s. I do have and International symbol on the side and both 110 and 12v. I would like to confirm that this is a correct identification. Did they make International Flying Clouds? I've just started some demo and will be needing lots of advice along the way. I'm happy to have found this great source of information.
