Thanks! I picked it up yesterday from a Craigslist ad that just said "airstream." I've always wanted one and was happy to find a vintage model when the seller responded. The frame/exterior seems solid and watertight, but the inside needs love. As best as I can tell, it's been sitting in someone's yard in interior Alaska for about 20-25 years since last being used regularly - but apparently covered.
I am in the process of moving, but starting next month I'll do upgrades. The floors are in surprisingly good condition, but it's worth replacing the subfloor all at once given the age and two weak spots on the ends. I can salvage wood/structure for the kitchen and closets, but the seating area/bed was removed. The original fridge is in there, but probably inoperable. I'm imagining I'll have to completely redo the electric, and will call in someone to check the propane lines and heater. It towed great over some rough roads to get it home, so I'm happy!

I need to sell my 2017 FC 26U. It’s been used five times and is in excellent condition. I was hoping to get an idea what to list it at. I am in Southern California.

You may have better luck posting in a category like ‘Dollars & Cents’ in ‘Trailer Values’. The Flying Cloud Registry registers Flying Clouds up to year 1963. Values never come into play. Good luck.

Calais66,
I looked back and saw these pre-resuscitation photos.
Outstanding job; hope to see it in person some day.

Just picked up #8119 a 22' Whale Tail, inside and out, 13 panel front. Title is showing 1957, but pretty sure it is a 1956. Don't see on your list. Located in Bozeman, MT.

It appears there was some overlap. Midway into 1957, California switched to the 9-panel end cap. in the pictures archives they note 1956 California FCs with serial numbers 7980-8180. We think the “8180” was a typo since 1957 California FCs started their serial numbers at 8120. Your FC is just one digit shy of the starting serial numbers of the 1957s, I would venture to guess it is a 1956. I will list your FC as a 1956 unless I hear differently. Maybe Joe (66Overlander) will weigh in with better documentation. Thanks

Unfortunately, the production records for the California plant have not been found before about December 1957 (i.e. mid 1958 model year), so the exact Serial Number breakpoints for California Airstreams before the 1958-59 changeover are not known. Any guesses to those breakpoints are just that - guesses. I have no idea where the guesses on the Vintage Airstream Photo Archives came from for California for those years.
What I can confirm is that California did switch from 13-panels to 7-panels relatively early in the 1957 model year and Ohio changed relatively late. I'll have to check the Ohio production records when I have more time, but I seem to remember seeing indications that Ohio changed to 7-panels around May or June 1957. For at least some models, the serial number breakpoint can be determined.
California might have changed to 7-panels late in the 1956 calendar year, or early in the 1957 calendar year. The California serial number breakpoints for the 7-panel change may need to be deduced by careful observation of serial numbers for 13 & 7-panel trailers. That is something I have not studied. I wonder if anyone else has.
Sorry I cannot provide a more precise answer. At this point in time, I have no basis to confirm or refute SN 8119 being a 1957 Flying Cloud.

Until better information, we'll list it as the last of the 1956 Flying Clouds. With that additions, we are up to a count of 180 vintage Flying Clouds.

1956 or 1957
Thanks to both of you. I agree and have no idea whether it's 56 or 57 and doesn't really matter to me. Told I'm the third owner, original purchased in early 1957 and so Idaho said it was a 57 on title, second owner didn't do anything, one of those buyers that had great plans, but then discovered it would take $10K in parts and 300-400 hours to restore. I have restored a 53 and two 55's (one 22 and one 26 dual axle wide body), and a 58 and flipped a 56 to England and 68 to Thailand. Wasn't really looking for another project, but stumbled upon it and somehow it's now sitting in my garage. Paid way too much, but they are getting harder to find, especially with skin not pitted. Not sure whether to flip or restore. But, the skin is almost perfect, no pitting anywhere, couple of dents. Had to be inside somewhere in Idaho most of it's life. Sold to original owner from Intermountain AS when they were still in Ogden. Original leather keychain and most manuals. Doesn't appear to be used much, but it is park model, so no battery and has that old hydraulic brake system. Bearing looked good, put on temp lights, towed about 20 miles at 45, no sign of wheels or bearings heating up. So continued another 250 miles at around 58-63 mph without any issues.
Will try and post some pictures when I figure out how again. I was listed for years under userid tlcbuilder, but somehow with the new system and changing my original email, couldn't get logged in and just gave up and am now Streamer1492 under my wife's email!

Thanks Terry for posting pictures. Your interior layout looks identical to our 55 all the way down to the light above the sink under the head locker with the louvers. Looks like a great project to restore.

1957 for sure
Sorry too many number trying to figure out what year this puppy is. Please update registry, actual serial number on this trailer and title is 8194 see photo. Serial number on old bill of sale laying in trailer is 8119. So it must be one of the last Whaletail / 13 panel made in 1957. I did find #8208 on Vintage Airstrem site and it is a 7 panel. So somewhere between 8194 and 8208, factory switched.
Please correct registry, sorry for the confusion
Terry
