Captain Jones,

Seeing your list, I see that our newly acquired 1951 Flying Cloud, 15 panel, (15 panels inside and out, front and rear) is there in sequence. Its VIN is 7099.

I can think of only one word to describe your trailer, and that is STUNNING. Absolutely gorgeous. Gotta ask - did you do all that custom interior aluminum work? Who did the designs?

I hope you show that trailer off at every opportunity - as an inspiration for others!!

Question Newbie help...

Hi Whitsend
I admit to being a newbie both to Airforums & ownership (they're pretty rare over here in the UK) so I'm probably missing a simple trick but in your post yesterday (184) you mention a 'stunning aluminum custom interior'. I'm about to start to restore my 53 FC & am looking for interior inspiration, so it would be great to see these pictures - but I can't find the post or member you're replying to... help !
Best from Devon in the UK

You must be mistaken. My trailer is in two parts. No interier.

Alloy Idler - I was COMPLETELY mistaken in directing you to FC7039. I think you can do a search for Flying Cloud Registry & look for anything on 1950 Flying Clouds, then look for FC7039's post # 138 directing us to look at D. Winick's redo of his '50FC, serial # 7024.
I HOPE this is correct. Good luck. Winick's work is beautiful.

Thanks Whitsend - I'm glad I'm not going mad. I tracked down David Winick's 'Custom' restoration of FC 7024 & yes, it is stunning. Nice retro touches. Personally I'd like to keep more of my original interior (see link to Vintage Vices Forum - a newish UK forum for Airstream & other vintage trailers - my posts are for 53 Flying Cloud):

Vintage Vices :: View topic - 53 Flying Cloud - More photos

As you can see I've only just got 3069 over from across your side of the the pond but despite having much of the floor rotted out all of the cabinetry is in good shape. My Zolatone has been overpainted so I think its a good excuse to go for a mirror shine on the interior end-caps (as Winick has) but will repaint the rest (as at Shady Dell - 49 Clipper). But first a new axle, rejuvenated leaf-springs, UK hitch... and then the floor! Wish me luck.

Best to all you Texan Streamers from the UK

You already have our Flying Cloud on your list- you must have gotten off of the Archives- but if you are putting names with the numbers - ours is '53- #7390.

Uwe,
I found 22-8532 when it was for sale on Ebay. It was in Utah at the time, but who knows where it ended up.

Andy.
Yes I am putting names and location if I know them in my database. Of course I do not post them because I do not have the individual's permission.
I originally found your trailer at vintageairstream.com

Hello fellow Flying Cloud owners:
The 1950 Flying Cloud #7024 is a custom trailer I built for Bob Wheeler, Airstream CEO. This trailer had pretty much no interior to salvage. I used the aluminum overhead lockers and that was about the extent of what could be salvaged. Everything else was fabricated in my studio. Thanks for all the great comments. I appreciate it and wish that trailer belonged to me. Was a really fun project. - David Winick

Hi all,

I was looking at the post by SilverHobby announcing his 62 FC. Notice he had a link to to his restoration blog. I have a 62 as well.

His 62 is different than mine. In the two pictures posted on his blog, both of the same side, his trunk is on the back, I can't see the vent stack for the water heater on the street side and there doesn't appear to be a battery box on the front. Mine has these features and a spare tire on the back. Is this the difference between the Land Yacht and International Land Yacht?
