Elaine's Flying Cloud - 1954

Here I go!

Yesterday was the start of the restoration of Elaine's wedding gift or her 25th birthday present, whichever comes first. (and I were a betting man the birthday will come first!)

I picked this trailer up last Thanksgiving here in WI and it is a one owner, not too bad of shape.

So step one, remove the interior, thats where I am today, and Sunday and the day after.............

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

That's one really cooooool trailer. I would love to see some more photos. Is that refrigerator door pink, or is it the lighting?

Fridge

The fridge is white and works! Its only electric/ice box but I think its going to stay. At least right now that is the plan.

Front layout is the same as my 54, but I have a rear double and a streetside bath instead of twins.

Oh goodie! I just love the destruction phase!!!!

How far do you have to take it? Are you replacing the floor? Shell-off, shell-on or just patching? Looks like it's in pretty good shape to start with...

So how many years 'til Elaine turns 25? If I recall - she's about 20 now...that oughta give you plenty of time to do a bang-up job! Can't wait to see the progress along the way and the end results ~ good luck!

Do you have photos of that rear setup? I am going to convert to just what you have but have been struggling with how and what the size of the bath would be.

This is a photo of the fridge.

Well after today I have only put my foot through the floor in one place, so I'll shoot for shell-on and patch.

I'm going to remove the inner skin, strip it polish it. Also it doesn't have a 12 volt system so I have to add that too. No water system to speak of, no black water tank, so all that need to be added. Rewire, re-insulate, re- well re everything! The cabinets are solid, need to figure out the bath and on and on it goes. THIS IS the last one.................

Only 4 cuts so far on my hands and a new pair of safety glasses

Elaine needs to age slower, at 19 I do have some time

If that's the case, I'll just watch from afar.

First weekend

Well I'm about 9 hours into this thing and this is where the weekend ends. Most of the interior is out, I have about 3 hours in the front and then its time to remove the inner skin. All I keep asking is "Where the hell do I store all this stuff?"

Its in storage, the basement, the garage, the trailer, the truck...........
And now the inner skins......

God I hate this kid

What's this stuff

When I look at the interior wheel wells, I see that they are covered with some kind of "fabric"? Is this asbestos? Man what next, I already have a weird bump in the floor in the front.

Ed,

I don't know what that stuff is, but I have it on my Liner wheelwells also. I assume that it is insulation. I will cover it with the cabinets.

I think what I am going to do is cover them with fiberglass matting.

I don't know what it was but I put a dust mask on and pulled it off. Glad I did , seems like there was black mold under it................

Weekend Two

I'm almost done with the removal of the interior skin, I have the lower and upper of the rear to do next weekend and then its on to see what is under the tile floor.

Found more floor rot today, not a good thing.

One other comment, I am amazed at what people will do to these trailers. In this case the past owner noticed floor rot under the dinette seats and under the fridge. So they seal where the wall meets the floor and covers the rotted area with plywood, now there is floor rot X2!

I won't EVEN go into the wiring I found, but lets just say that insulation will melt if a wire gets hot..........

Ed,

The entire floor of my Liner had a 3/4" plywood overlay. Yes, the wiring is scary, no ground and taped splices in the center of panels.
