I don't know if there is a campground at that exact spot but its funny how you can have trouble with your axles at the strangest times!

Okay, I got over the snow and went and finished the removal of the last lower inner skins. Yes Frank there was another split in the rib. Yes Frank, you were were right! Its just when I saw the other side I thought the worst. Man did it snow on sunday! The good thing about living in Atlanta is its mostly gone now! There was a lot more corrosion on yhe streetside than on the curbside. Some of the skins are missing almost an inch of the bottom. Exactly what I expected. Looking close I am amazed at how uneven the belly skin wrap over the channel is. Was this from where they pulled it up and over to get it tight as possible? And will it be that hard to reinstall? Oh yes I almost forgot, My trailer has grommets that the wires run in. I keep hearing how they didn't do this, but mine has them. Has anyone else seen these in this year(1955)?

I forgot that I took some pics with my phone. Wow, is that really a snowpile under the hitch? Don't forget this is Georgia. I just love the way they spliced the wires!

They weren't worried about owners tearing these trailers apart at all, just like todays RV builders. They were/are only concerned with saving every ounce of excess weight. If they were real electrical tradesmen they would have junction boxes and outlet boxes everywhere the wires connected or an outlet/switch was to be located. These days they have higher standards for inspection on RV building than in the day. Your best bet is to make your project as electrically SAFE as you know how. If you are unsure as to what needs to be done please find a good electrician to make all the connections. Oh yeah, get rid of the old asbestos coated wiring in the trailer. Best thing you will ever do is to upgrade the wiring and old switches/outlets for your own piece of mind. Be safe and.... Happy Trails, Ed

I have to agree with Ed here. I just replaced all the marker and tail light pigtails to get rid of the asbestos covered wires. They were fraying, and unsafe. My splices were the same in my 53 FC, so your pictures are a familiar sight to me. I am using all new 100v wiring, new outlets, and shallow outlet boxes from Vintage Trailer Supply. All of my lights are being converted to 12 v though, and I am covering all my 12v wiring with black cable protector found at home depot.

I found your thread and I am amazed with how much you have accomplished. I definitely want to be there when you take the shell off. I am itching to do another trailer but it just is not in the finances.
