Pardon me if this is a dumb question...Is the wood you installed on the interior finished/stained/sealed yet? If so, what did you use. I really like the look of the wood.

Our international has the modernistic aluminum, white laminate, and wood cabinet interior, and its kind of cold and sterile looking. Yours looks very warm and rustic. Nice look!

Yes warm and comfortable are terms that are always used when thinking ahead on this project. Now then we mixed a warm yellow and umber stain followed by three brushed and sanded coats of Hemsman Spar varnish , both sides. Then a final sprayed coat of the same. We used the satin finish as I feel the gloss or even semi gloss becomes hard on the eyes because of glare. Just my .02

Cut the first holes in the floor for intake air, then started to frame the bedroom wall.Click image for larger version

No turning back now, the small holes are intake and will be straight down. The larger exhaust will elbow and follow a trunk under the floor and exhaust further back and away from the intakes.Click image for larger version

I stumbled across your thread today and read it all. Just absolutely amazing work you have done. You are one fine craftsman.

I like your air conditioner design and hope that it works well for you. I took the Armstrong AC unit off my Tradewind because it was butt ugly and noisy. I designed a mounting bracket for my AC unit that works well when we really need it. Usually it just rides in the bottom of the closet because we usually camp where we don’t need AC.

A Cloud named 'Spoon'

I have been following it too since I have covered my walls with wood also.

So Dan how big was your trailer and how many BTU was your AC? This is a 6000 BTU , the mock up of the wall will house a duct to vent the cold air up and blow the air into the cabin from ceiling height.

The wood on the walls will help a lot with regard to heating and cooling. While plywood is not an excellent insulator, the thermal break it provides at the edge of cabin will make a huge difference in the transfer of radiant heat.

Only 5,000 BTU/HR. I wanted it small and light and low on power consumption, so I could operate it using my 1,000 watt genny. Here is the thread with all the details:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f427...nny-91215.html

I was wondering what the wall was all about. Ducting it for a high discharge is a great idea and should also cut down on the fan noise (your very own ducted AC vintage style!).

Here are a couple of photos of the AC installed. We have not actually even used it for the past two years because we tend to camp where we don't need it. Mostly it rides in the bottom of a closet. It sure is nice to have it when you need it though.

It is in the middle area of the Tradewind which is where the gaucho is that we sleep. If it is real hot, even though the unit is small, it will keep us cool just fine if we close off the rear bath and the front living room/kitchen area.

Dan the wood is just kind of framing for the metal ductwork. Once the metal is installed the plan is to wrap the whole thing on foam insulation to keep heat at a minimum , because the unit is directly below the bed platform

I don’t know, I think I might make the ducting out of wood and insulate it inside and out if it were me. It would be fast, easy, effective, and quiet.

Biggest worry would be moisture on the wood. I did make drain pan under the AC with a tube for drainage out the bottom.
The framing the AC sits on,is wrapped in rubber to quiet the unit down.

A little more cold air duct work done. Hard to tell the AC cold air will go up through this partially completed duct to about ceiling height then empty into cabin. This duct is about 4” thick and as wide as the AC intake. Make sense?Click image for larger version

Barry, do you have something to push the cool air up and out the vent up high?

My thoughts exactly. The little fan in the AC unit may not have the power to push the cold air in a direction it doesn't want to go. An additional helper fan my be required. Can you close up the duct with cardboard or something and run the AC before you commit to pushing the conditioned air that high up.

Yes it is my intention to tape some cardboard up for the other wall and try it before final assy. The AC does have three speeds but as you have suggested , I will most likely run a pair of small computer fans to help flow move better. Where would you suggest the fans be? Midway? Near the top?
