She's here!

I came home late last night after having dinner with some co-workers and when i arrived i looked at our drive way and there she was! Silver, large, pretty our 1952 Flying Cloud !

Shame it was already dark outside so we couldn't realy see, so this morning we have been circling around it with the whole family She looks great on the outside! The inside does need a whole lot of work but we knew and are prepared. I will make more pictures as soon as hubby stabilizes her. Just wanted to let you know that there are 3 dutchies on flying cloud 9

It's so strange, she's in our drive way and i cant stop looking. I hope hubby comes home soon and stabilizes her so i can go inside!

I couldn't get the pictures uploaded here so i've put them on Photobucket. We have found beesnests, birdsnest and ratdroppings so far.

We can re-use the fridge (it's uber cool and in great shape still), the sink and tap are in good shape so will be re-used. The lights, i love the glass sphere light on the side of the kitchen cabinets. (I see that i managed to keep it out of the pictures ) and most of the cabinets are still in great shape, for the rest.... my husband really got his work cut out for him.

The floor is in bad, bad shape, the frame is quite rusted but repairable. So the frame and floor are our first priorities after the interior is stripped.

My husband doesn't want to remove the shell so is going to try to repair both the frame and floor in parts. I hope that will work out.

The guy in the blue fleece is my husband, the pretty little thing in pink is our daughter. That big silver thing is our Airstream

How wonderful! Please post a thread of your restoration process. Especially include the unique challenges restoring in the Nederlands.

This weekend i left hubby on his own and went to London with a friend. I do think he quite enjoyed beeing on his own . My daughter stayed at my mothers so all the women were out of the house. I'm wondering if he sat on the couch like al bundy!


This weekend he removed the remaining floor parts, cut out the pieces of frame which need replacement and cut out the metal for the repairs. He also prepared them so that the welder only needs to weld them.

We are still not sure if we are going to get a european or american car to pull the trailer... thing is that gas and diesel are way more expensive over here (eur 1.65 per liter which is USD 2.19 for 0.26 gallon). So the car would need to be relatively economical. It will also mean i have to say goodbye to my Peugeot 307 cc

Very nice. You have come along way since we first discussed this. From the look of your progress....go to London again...for a couple weeks this time. Your husband may have much more work completed.

The welding is done, my husband did most of it himself (the welder teached him how to). And at the moment he is cleaning the frame with POR-15 stuff.

The weather is awfull right now, dark and rainy, which doesn't make it easier. But he locked himself up with extra lights and a heater and is cleaning the frame
