Question Tree fell on Airstream...Irma

I have been reading a bunch of threads about rib and skin repair. I am not beat yet. I will have to gut the bedroom and take out the skins, but 4 years of working on this thing will not make me give up. Just got back from its first vacation. You can see the trailer if you look at y sons 1960 overlander restoration. I am out of space for pic posting. The tree that fell on it has a trunk about 6 feet in diameter. Yeah I am sick right now.

Saw this one on Facebook but don't believe it's yours, I think it was in Florida.

Sorry to hear this! You did a great job on restoration.

How are the endcaps? Is it mostly straight panel damage?

Hey Brian, send me a couple of pics via email. I remember you had a bunch of really big trees in your backyard. Could be a long row to hoe for ya. Sorry you had this happen.

It is crushed between the bathroom and airconditioner. I will have to take out the bedroom and inner skins to see what is going on with the frame. I went inside trailer. The kitchen and living area are fine. Did not go in the bathroom, but from the fantastic fan back looks fine. It would have been much worse, but the tree hit the house, which will be another issue. The tree guy to give an estimate. He will come out soon as the ground drys. He is going to take a machine and lift the tree off the trailer and I will pull the trailer out, and then probably see what is really wrong with it.

My son found one in the weeds that has been gutted just like it. His suggestions is to swap them and move all the interior into the other one. I think it will be easier to fix the ribs and stringers. use a english wheel to fix skins. All wood interior dividing walls are history. I will remake. cabinets on both sides above the twin beds can be fixed or remade. Use the old as templates

Just got out to look at end cap. Tree branch is laying on rib between the end cap and
bed room which pushed it in. I will have to see what i will have to accomplish to fix it... Just have to wait for the ground to dry so I can get a machine in to lift the tree. I already got in touch with arborist. He has a machine that will lift the tree so I can pull the trailer out from under it.

So it is pushed down from the air conditioner to the rib between the end cap and the bedroom. The rest of the end cap looks great. Trailer looks great from the air conditioner to the front and the rear end looks great except for the dent on the rib at the end cap The sides look fine also..Just the roof

Sorry to hear of your bad luck! I'll bet the storm damaged a lot of other Airstreams also. At least they are pretty straight forward to repair.

Had a little visit with Brian today. Big 'ol Elm tree and Airstream went a couple rounds. Brian thinks we can fix it, so we're going to give it a go.

Most of that damage on the sides looks worse than it is. Maybe we can get away with just replacing the roof sections of aluminum.

Inside has lots of damage to the woodwork in the center bedroom area. That's easy compared to the aluminum sheets. Adrienne and Brian did a beautiful job restoring that woodwork (and the polishing is fabulous, as well). Shame to see that have to be that replaced.

Words of encouragement! Brian and Adrienne make the best Jambalaya I've ever tasted (and the beer ain't bad either). Anybody want to tag along and help?

Jim

tree is off trailer. Elm and two oaks will be firewood for a couple years. Pulled the trailer around the neighborhood and that went well. No noise from the running gear. I will put RV back in the yard as soon as the arborists finish the trees. Found a distributor with the aluminum I might need.
