Sofa replacement with 2 recliners on 19 footer
I have seen a portion of this post but cannot find the final comments. I want to:
I know there was someone talking on this matter a few months ago, but I cannot find out the outcome or thinking on replacing the uncomfortable leather couch with recliners on our 2006 Bambi 19' Special Edition. It looks to me like they would fit snugly utilizing special recliners that do not recline as far back as normal (wall huggers, I think). I do not use the dry camping tank, nor do I anticipate using it. If I took it out, I would replace prior selling (I removed it last year when I put in new tile, and reinstalled with no problems encountered). The electrical conglomeration in the front could be covered, leaving nothing else to eliminate. Any feedback? Pictures would be awesome. Thanks

I'm planning on replacing the gaucho with recliners in my 73 Overlander. Most likely will start looking for a pair in earnest come the new year. Wall huggers are a good bet. How much room do you have in the front of the trailer?

Did it twice. Once on a 25' and again on a 30'. Used smaller chairs on the 25', called Stressless as a brand. On the 30' used the same ones for a while and then put in Lazy Boys. Sold both units and now have a 30' with factory installed recliners. Just do not like the sofas in any RV.

Thanks to both of ya. Your correct, I do believe my leather couch is the most uncomfortable unit, up or down. Train stations benches were more comfortable if I remember correctly. I haven't measured the exact detentions yet, but she is only 19' long. Am going to put another tile on the floor and taking the couch out again. It looks like both sitting at an angle will possibly work. When I had it out last spring, the water tank and a few lines appears is all I will have to remove. I can design something to cover the wiring...what a mess that is. Politically incorrect--have a very Merry Christ and happy New Year where ever you are.

These conversions sound easy, not so much on our 2014 27FB International. Once we bought it, (go figure) we learned rather quickly how uncomfortable the dinette/settee is. One would think a person would check all this stuff really closely before being so eager to whip out the checkbook. Apparently not, so we looked into remodeling it, removing the dinette and replacing it with two Stessless recliners. We have two at home, one of the best investments we've ever made, but I digress. Anyway, sent the proposed project out for bid. An outfit in Oregon that specializes in such things came back with a bid of $14,000 (not $1400) as they would have to reconfigure/relocate the heater, the refrigeration unit and a ton-o-ducting...by the way, the $14K was without the chairs that run around $2,000 a piece. For some inexplicable reason, the dinette/settee has suddenly, almost amazingly, gotten more comfortable.

DWR FLYTE chairs would be a great choice for an AS.

On our 25' we also became disappointed in he comfort of the original set up. We had a recliner from a previous 5th wheeler in the house and with the use of a used flip top we were able to fabricate what you see in the picture. Very happy now. If I could only relocate the micro/convection oven so i did not have to get on my knees to see the digital read out.

An AS interior is very easy to work on. I got so depending on where we were going and anticipated activity I could change the two lounge chairs for the dinette in about an hour or less. Plus I enjoy doing it, now with the 2015 I am trying to decide what to do, might put in granite or some different type of counter tops in the kitchen and bath areas.

You guys with these long trailers!!!!!! As seen by this posting, IT APPEARS I have a possible chance. I like what I have seen thus far. Have measured and the space I have to work with is 36 x 90 (give or take). The fresh water tank would have to be removed, along with the water pump. Thennnnn, a small amount of carpentry. Hopefully, I (we) can get some more photos. Thank ya'll

The mother ship is changing out the couch for 2 recliners as we speak. I hope to get pictures in another week or so. Never liked the couch at all.

Just ran across DKOTTUM's pictures set up and I think I could live with an installation such as his. Who needs a couch that makes into a bed (uncomfortable at that). Besides, I am used to sleeping in my recliner...Don't say it!! I am there by choice, most of the time.

Classic 28
Here are my recliners in my Classic 28. I built the new cabinets across the front of the lounge out of oak with laminate tops. The cabinets behind the chairs are lower and shallower to allow the chairs to recline.
I moved the converter to behind the road-side chair. That freed up the center cabinet for storage. We each have our own drawer in the center cabinet for medicine and such.
I always felt an Airstream needed a Tiffany lamp, so I permanently mounted one on the new cabinet. We remove the shade for travel.
I did this about 5 years ago and would never go back to the couch.

I don't know how much modification is required on a 19', but on our 25' the rear of the couch covered the batteries and associated charger. I designed a rectangular box to cover the batteries and act as a two-level table. The box/table was by far the most time-consuming part of the conversion. But it cost next to nothing! The chairs were purchased on sale for $300 each.

What great ideas. I can't wait to get started. The WX is rain, temp in the upper 40's and trailer is calling me....However, I have the flu with a topping of pneumonia I will have to shake first. I used to pray for colds so that I would have a reason to drink hot toddies, but I quit drinking 36 years ago...but, who's counting...my wife.

How did you stabilize the recliners during traveling?
