For interior fabrics, consider discount sites like:

New Toto
and
FabricGuru

This will send samples.

Safari Curtains

Well, my AS is not vintage, but I saw this thread just as I was putting the finishing touches on my curtains, so I thought I'd share. Actually, my sister did most of the sewing and helped me pick out the fabric, but I did the tedious task of attaching the top and bottom slides. I have the midnight sun interior with aluminum walls and wanted something to brighten/cozy things up. I love the colors in the striped throw pillows (shown in the picture), so we used that as a starting place. We used some nice thick ivory lining on the back for a little insulation, privacy, and to extend the life of the curtains; then I made the little valances you see on the smaller windows to match those on the panoramic. I attached the valances with velcro to the blinds because our AS is still new enough to us to not want to drill holes . I have loved looking at everyone's pictures, so here's mine:

I have the same trim colors. I've been so busy fixing maintaining and everything else that I haven't been able to get at decor stuff. I like your redo. Question, did you make the new curtains off of the old white canvas looking stock ones as templates or are yours pleated?

I am thinking about going a different direction- more monochromatic. I don't like blah but I brought in my color wheel (used to work part time as a design person) and nothing much matches the midnight sun but basic black, tan, gold, etc. that is a BRIGHT color. I want little to no pattern almost solid in color. It looks like you have a different finish on your cabinets. Mine is tropical oak. That too, for me, is causing some matching issues with its pinkish tone (cool color overtone) to the warm tones of the mid sun. At any rate, like the red in your curtains!

Hi Rodsterinfl, No, I didn't use the old curtains for a pattern; I just cut the new material (which is pretty heavy) one and a half times the window width, so that the curtains, with some coaxing, hold the pleated shape. Like you, I was originally thinking of using curtains that were more neutral in color to go with the midnight sun, but I'm also going for a Safari (sort of African) theme and saw this geometric print and loved it. I just hope I don't get sick of it! Oh, and my cabinets are also tropical oak-I think they just look different in the lighting in the photos. Good luck with your project. I hope you post pictures when you're done!

I will post some pics eventually, thanks. Hey if you get sick of the curtains you can always make some more! Speaking of Safari 'theme' there are some really neat fabrics along that line. There is a woven look in sort of a maroon with elephants and a grassy looking stuff that would give some pillows a woven look. Interesting thought- both were at JoAnn's.

We will see. A few weeks ago I began contemplating changing things. I DID just recently change the bedspreads out with some IKEA stuff and really like it but that was more out of need. I did go with a preferred decor choice but I have yet to really take it all on.

I just notices that you live in St. Augustine! We may be neighbors in the future.

...busted for the bath towel? I thought you'd at least get me for the Flat Screen that I mounted on the ceiling in the bedroom!

Custom Curtains

When I got my Airstream I knew it wouldn't be long before I added curtains to the windows that only had roll-down shades. The shades are nice but they leave gaps at the edges. My mother enjoys sewing and was happy to take on the challenge. The front pano curtains were made just like the ones from the factory and were more difficult than the others because they aren't just rectangular pieces of fabric. There are some deliberate curves in the lines to allow them to track correctly across the front.

The side and rear windows were much easier. All curtains were made with a blackout backing to keep the interior as dark as possible -- even when the neighbors leave the scare light on all night. The blackout lining has also helped to keep the interior cooler, too.

I had to purchase extra curtain track from my dealer along with the mounting brackets. The hardware to do the two side windows and the two bedroom windows was maybe $45. Pretty reasonable, really. Installation was easy using only a drill, screwdriver, and tape measure.

The fabric came from fabricguru.com and was an end-of-the-roll remnant but still first quality. It was labeled as "famous maker outdoor" which sounds like Sunbrella or something equivalent. It's very sturdy and I'm hoping it will not suffer too much from the effects of UV.

The addition of some color and pattern added some life to the interior. Overall, I'm very happy with the update.

when we got the 18ft 1960 airstream back after 25 years the interior was in the need for a face lift. sitting for 20+ years as storage and unknown years with mice. after 4 months of restoration with the goal to keep original it was time to decide on curtains. with only 3 small windows 1 on each end and one on the driver side.. I wanted a material that would pop and i wanted to stay with my atomic theme. we used 11 yards of fabric because we went with material on both sides

Custom curtains

They look very nice. My wife has made many curtains for the other sob's we have had in the past. She had purchased a spray on the internet that was a UV protectant against the sun that she sprayed on them before hanging. It worked very well.

curtains

I collected a whole bunch of souvenir vintage handkerchiefs off of ebay for cheap. Evidently people collected them on their vacation travels. They have a very fifties vibe to them and although my trailer is a 1960, I think it has more of a fifties feel to it with it's pink bathroom sink(and toilet which unfortunately I had to toss). My sister Shelly and I brainstormed and came up with a perfect solution....curtains!!

just wanted to let everyone know that united shades makes decent Rv shades. it's what I ended up going with due to having too tight of tolerances to install a bottom track for curtains.

are there any how-to's or good posts on how to use the tracks and hardware on curtains? I'm looking at VTS and just don't know what tracks to buy. i want to do the triple pleated ones but i need them to be able to have a top and ottom track, not hanging freely.
