Rivet Holes

I've just about gutted an '85 Sovereign and am getting ready to start painting the interior. I have a boatload of rivet holes on the interior skin where I have removed stuff...I know I can put new rivets in those holes, but then I have rivets all over the place from where various stuff I am not going to replace was hung...is there something I can use to "spackle" the holes before painting? Any particular technique to ensure it bonds well?

Just put rivets in the holes they look ok use the low profile kind

Just use rivets, they look fine and will save hour many hours of work.

I agree with everyone above. Rivets look like they should be there.....no one but you will know they don't serve a purpose!

Thanks for the info...I get it...but, for example, I've gotten rid of the overhead storage over the counters and there are some funny rivet and screw hole patterns that held those things up (I'm 6'5" and the overhead bins make me feel like ducking all the time :-). So...anyway to fill those?

Also, the PO put a 1" diameter hole in the ceiling to mount one of those cheesy swinging 70's lamps on a chain (seriously)...was hoping to patch that then paint over. Don't want the walls to be "busy".

Try a decorative patch in the design of your choice, but riveted in.

Having had many people look at my Trade Wind, I found that most never see the things about it that I see every time I camp. Dents, dings, etc. Things that drive me crazy, no one else ever notices. Point is make a neat patch and after you paint the ceiling no one but you will ever notice. As long a a repair is neat, straight and proper it will be fine.

I had my interior panels off so I put a piece of duct tape onnthe back and filled the front surface with auto body filler. Sand then paint. I had to many rivet holes for my liking.

We had the same problem, (chain mount hole). We happened to have a couple of shallow plastic caps in the TT, and we glued them over the holes. The caps were probably used on the end of, perhaps, a curtain rod of sorts.

Anyway, the cap didn't give a smooth fit to the ceiling, so we used a bit of thick beige paint to smooth things out.

Our ceiling is that patterned beige vinyl. The final look is very good. Wish I could show you a photo, but I don't have one.

Personally, I would be concerned about the long term adhesion of just about any bondo type filler unless your surface prep is perfect.Remember these things flex-A LOT! If you are using zolatone and only want to do it once in your lifetime- do it right. If you dont mind the idea of occasionally patching and repainting, Ignore this
