Re-Uph for new2me 30' s/o

Got our 1st A/S yesterday, and I would like to re-upholster it. How difficult is it to re-cover the fuzzy walls as well? Also can I (myself) fix the latches on the outside compartments? The rivets are very loose, and I can't get a good snug latching. THANKS, Joe.

Hi there Nokomisjoe,

Welcome to the forums..
Here is a thread that was started about cleaning the "mousefur" How Do I Clean The Upholstered Walls?

I was unable to clean it as it pulled aluminum dust right through the fabric and was permanently stained. I think folks vacuumed it to death. I replaced all the wall liner. Its quite a job. I removed all the fabric and made templates for the new material. Just takes time and patience but the end result seemed worth it. Enjoy you slideout.. we love ours.

Vinnie

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

I have had success in replacing some fastening rivets with Rivet Nutters. These go into a rivet hole and has a threaded hole inside in which the accessory can then be fastened with a screw. I have used these to refasten Lucy's door holder, and the cable support for the outside storage door.

Brian,

That looks really clean and professional. Good idea.

thanks for the help

Vlamica and moosetags, thanks for the advise. I have spent 9+hrs trying to get the carpet and upholstery clean as well as the "mouse fur". It is not happening. I am even using a Dyson vacuum, but to no avail. The former owner was apparently a FILTHY individual, who never bothered to clean up either the dirt or dog hair. The dealership detail crew must have been related to Zatoichi, however I'm sure even Ichi could have done better. I took it to the upholsterers today, and they will start stripping it next week. I will be replacing everything except wallpaper. Drapes, carpet, mouse fur, All upholstered surfaces, even gonna put in new "wood" linoleum for the kitchen. We all suffer from allergies, so the interior needs to be replaced. I will try the rivet replacement you recomended Moose, it looks great.R U a B.B. King fan btw. His guitar's name is LUCY!
THANKS ALL, Joe.

Sounds like a very interesting project. Can you post some before and after pictures?

Si senore. My wife is a picture taker. I would be happy to ask her. It doesn't look that bad inside now, but the hidden dander is just that. Hidden but still present, and awful to be around. I've got a bunch o samples to choose from. I have 4 days B4 Doug the upholsterer come back. It will be strange, but I will have to play interior decorator. I guess I'll wear something really manly.
