Metal surface that can hold a magnet

I am wanting to use a metal for my refigerator door and backsplash around the stove that can hold a magnet. Has anyone figured this out yet?

...most common steel-like metals EXCEPT aluminum. They have to have some iron in them...

The cowling around the vent above the stove in ours holds all sorts of magnets... Unless you replace the aluminum with steel or the likes, you're outta luck using magnets.

Put double stick tape on the magnet

They haven't perfected aluminum made from steel yet, but you may be able to slide a sheet of thin steel behind the aluminum, and the magnet will grip the steel through the aluminum.

Go to a sheet metal shop and get some 400 series stainless steel in what ever gauge you need. 300 series is non magnetic, but 400 is not. Take a magnet and try sticking it to different s.s. appliances around your house, and you'll see that it will stick to some and not to others, sometimes even different parts of the same appliance will differ. Manufacturers will use 400 series when they can because it's a bit cheaper. However, in exterior applications it can get rust spots on it, so 300 series would be used there.

I agree....perhaps replace the insert on the refrigerator door with some sheet metal....would that work for you?

My wife wanted an area in the kitchen for magnets, I purchased a sheet of thin steel from the duct work area of our local Lowes, laminated it to the wall seperating the kitchen from the middle couch with epoxy, then applied brushed aluminum vinyl over the steel. This duct work material should work for you, it was roughly 3' x 3'.

If you can find an enameled steel dry erase (bulletin) board, it would also work. You can jot down notes to each other, and hold those papers and coupons with the magnets.
