Is a tile backsplash too heavy?
We have a 1975 Tradewind Land Yacht that we about to renovate and are gathering information. Has anyone used ceramic or glass tiles for a backspash in the galley area? Is the back wall strong enough to support the tile or do we need a backerboard? Would this be too heavy?

We used smart tiles and you can't tell the difference. It looks like glass mosaic and maybe adds two pounds in weight.

Back wall should be aluminum sheet riveted to frame sections, and should be strong enough to support tile/glass backsplash.. Might be more of a challenge dealing with either flexing of sidewall, or expansion/contraction due to heating and cooling.. Those may force you to find flexible mastic or adhesive to make sure backsplash stays in place when you travel, or when trailer in storage if in cold climate...

Flex Tile
I tiled over 50% of my bathroom with 1/8" glass tile. I used this company for the grout and adhesive. I stand behind this product 100%. It is called Flex Tile.
The owner of the company created the grout for in ground swimming pools that were subject to large temperature changes. He is also an avid RVer and then started using it in his RVs. Now he markets the product to RVs as well. Anyway, it is somewhat expensive but it will last. Good luck.

Questions
I looked at the flextile site and it sounds like you could use most any ceramic or glass tile subject to size limitations , is that true? Also ,would you only need the special grout and scrubbers since his 100% silicone is probably just like any other brand ? Looks like something neat to do.

63Air = They recommend that you use only their product. I would take their advice. Make sure to get a ton of their special scrubbers. You will need them. Also, you could probably do with half the amount of adhesive that they recommend...

We used the same tiles as Peter77 in our bath and to replace mirrors on the upper cabinet doors in our Classic. Got them at Lowes. They come as a peel and stick sheet. Looks great as a kitchen backsplash...I may try it.

Home Depot carries the metallic tiles in several colors and sizes. I went with the champagne subway tiles for the backsplash in the path.

How have these peel and stick metallic tiles held up with the constant flux in ambient temperatures?
Looking to put a backsplash in my bathroom.

Is a tile backsplash too heavy?
I posted here in Nov 2013 that I had installed these tiles in our bath owner the wallpaper border behind the sink. Since then the trailer has seen temps well into the 20s as well a 100+ days here in Texas. In 2014 we took a 4 month adventure to Alaska and back and last year we traveled up through and around the Great Lakes, Ontario, Quebec, then from Maine to Virginia and back to Texas. We are also members of a local RV club and the months we are here we venture out other them. To date not one has come loose or discolored. We've been very happy with this fairly simple project. I did go over the surface with alcohol to help ensure a good contact with the adhesive.
