I think you're talking about the "mouse fur", as it's termed here on the forum. Our 2006 has it and we like it, especially on cold nights when you roll against the wall. There's no cold shock surprise
It also makes it quieter on the inside, absorbing some of the sound from the outside.
I've never removed it but they took a section off at the AS service center to replace some flooring for me. I didn't get to see it off or replaced but I'm pretty sure the interior aluminum skin is under it. They cleaned it with a bleach mixture, I've used a Bissell spot lifter to clean the rest of mine.
