Thanks a lot David! Those look great! I spent a couple days browsing through their catalog after my failed stainless tank experiment, and got kinda overwhelmed. My real work got pretty intense at the same time and I made the executive decision to hire professionals...
Your post is inspiring me to get a refund of my retainer with them and take another stab at this thing. I'm going to hound them on Monday and see where they are with everything. Stay tuned!

P.S. How much were your tanks? And do you remember which model number?

T Marco, hello! I don't remember the exact model number. It was in the "H" part number series for "holding" tanks. The width was 17", and the height was 9". The length I believe was about 48". The capacity of the tanks was in the 26 gallon area. I paid about $650 for both tanks with grommets and adaptors, and about $150 in freight. They are made out of tough polyethene and have the shoulders for hanging the tanks.

I tried to down load the catalog again, but too many people using Netflix in my neighborhood right now. It is a huge adobe file. The tank was like on page 39 of the catalog. I just browsed through the catalog until I found a tank that was less than 19" wide and less than 50 inches long. The bottom of the tanks slope to the drain opening. These tanks did come with the old fashioned "screw" type metal sensors, but I opted for the SeeLevel as I read they are more reliable. Time will tell.

Yep, you are fully capable of installing waste water tanks in your Globetrotter.

Just yesterday I finished a new, improved dump valve aluminum cover and installed it. I think it will work okay. I just can't wait for my first flush and dump!

And you did some creative thinking with your fancy axles and wheels. And you've learned that welding ain't that bad. I haven't learned that skill yet. We Airstream enthusiasts learn from each other on these forums.

My 86 has an ABS plastic valve cover under it. These valve covers keep the dump valves warm in cold weather. Here is a photo of the dump valve cover on the 86. It does make servicing the valves more work.

Do you drill your own holes and put on your own fittings, or have the factory do it?

T Marco, Neither! I used, and I recommend the grommet fittings that Inca Plastics sells. They work great. I too work in a rotomolding factory and make diesel fuel tanks similar to the ones Titan sells. We use grommet fittings for fuel out and fuel return. They are leak free.

The rubber grommet is molded with a sealing ring that presses into the tank. Then when the ABS pipe is installed, it "presses" the sealing diameter tight to the tank. It works good. The ABS pipe protrudes through the subfloor and ready to receive the drain line.

Here is a photo of the Inca Plastics grommets. I figured out where my toilet, sink drain lines and tank vents would penetrate the floor, and then hole sawed the floor to clear the ABS pipe. Then I mounted the tanks and marked them through the holes in the sub floor. Now I know where to drill the tanks and mount the grommets. Finally I remounted the tanks and pushed my ABS pipe connectors into the grommet. Done! A flexible seal that is quite durable.

David, thanks so much for the pictures and explanations, I don't know how this happened, but in my extensive research I was still left thinking that the things you just showed me were done by the factory (On other tanks I've seen). I was stressing about making diagrams for them because I couldn't really predict exactly where everything was gonna go without having the tanks in front of me. I'm so relieved! Thanks again buddy!

Hello! Actually my wife and I are picking up our first airstream at the end of this month and we are beyond excited! It's an '83 Excella 31' that's been completely gutted. When we're done with it, we're going traveling around this continent for about a year and a half to 2 years. We absolutely love this forum!!

Oh boy stream life. The 31 excella is a very nice rig. You will thoroughly enjoy "building your own Airstream" and then living with what you built! We have an 86 Limited that has been in the family since new. It's a nice large size for comfortable rainy afternoons.

Good Morning T Marco. You might not want to drill your tanks until you have the shell back on and have engineered your drain piping according to the location of your shower pan (the original question you had!) You also need to spot the toilet over your black tank or figure out the black tank drain line and vent. Your gray tank and drain lines also need to connect to a vent so water drains smoothly.

I suppose you're going to mount something else on your A frame causing you to move the propane tanks forward. Generator? Solar? Battery box? Spare tire? I've seen all these things mounted on the A frame.

Thanks for the tip on waiting to drill, I'll hold off for a bit. And you are a smart one! I'm going to be mounting a mini-split AC condenser behind the LP tanks

Today I welded the stuff in for the fresh tank, so I could eliminate the heavy wood that went under it in the original design.
I cut down the weight quite a bit, didn't sacrifice and strength, eliminated the potential for more rotting wood, and made the tank more accessible from under the trailer if I ever needed to get at it again.




That's about 160lbs of pure Man standing at the center point of just one of the angles. Thankfully I didn't break an ankle trying to get that picture.
