Ugh, yeah, I've been thinking about the rock guard. The fun doesn't stop... And the money doesn't stop flowing out of my pockets either

Marco, the trick deal on a rock guard is to drive down to Corona and buy one **without shipping charges** from Andy at Inland.

Airstream was big into the "plastics revolution" back in the 60s and 70s. My son's 69 Globetrotter has this flimsy window rock guard that has been abused through the years. His trailer does not have the bigger panorama windows of the later Airstreams. His has the smaller windows like yours does.

I don't know if these "vintage" rock guards are still available. I do recommend a rock guard as it is common for front windows to get blasted by rocks thrown up by traffic. How many of us have had broken windshields? I wouldn't ride a motorcycle without a helmet and face shield due to the chance of a rock hitting me at 70 mph. Pow!

ID:	239641here is the rock guard on my 69 Sovereign. The wing windows are not even available in glass anymore just plastic at a cost of $499.00. I guess because they are one year only windows. Anyhow I hardly even like opening the rock guard when we are camped for fear it will get broken somehow. Let alone drive down the road without one.

Hey David your son's 69 Globetrotter has the same wing windows I have. The rock guard I have would fit his trailer perfectly. It's available at Inland RV. It would update the look of his AS. Also you can see perfectly out the windows with it down, but it also gives privacy as you can see in through the dark tint.

Wow, that is a nice looking rock guard. We will put one on our Christmas list.

The 1969 wing windows with their square bottom corners are very hard to come buy. I've seen some folks just sheet over them with aluminum if they break. The 1970 and later windows are a bit easier to get.

I get to pick up this shiny guy from the polish place tomorrow! I can't wait!!! I'm a little nervous about dents and dings being a lot more apparent, but hopefully the sun hitting it is so blinding that you can't really get a good lol at it.

Hello T Marco, Somebody spent a bunch of mindless, boring, noisy, dirty, tedious hours to bring your GT to a smooth, shinny surface. I spent 170 such hours on mine. I think we should invent an Airstream polishing machine. It would have several wool bonnets spinning at once, it would be laser guided to follow the countours and apply the right pressure, it would have automatic "raking" of the polish pads, and automatic "charging" of fresh polish. And it would run all by itself all night. Maybe similar to an automatic car washer.

Airstreams are attention grabbers all shinny. Oh, did I mention the shine will continually degrade every day as the aluminum corrodes back to it's dull gray preference? Rain, bugs, birds, pollution all take its toll.

Yes, dents are scratches are more noticeable, but dents and scratches are part of the Airstream experience if you use your trailer. I seem to be a hail magnet. You don't want to be in the same campground with me as it will surely hail.

Hahaha, well David, you just made me infinitely happier with my decision to not polish this thing myself. It was a tough call for a do-it-yourselfer like me. How long would you say it takes to need a fresh polishing?

The one, the only Marco! I pulled my Trade Wind out of the garage mid May. It has sat under a tree for three weeks. It's all dirty, tree sap, water spotted and has been hit several times by some gigantic bird with bowel problems. Ahh, nature!

I don't have an ideal climate like southern California coastal areas. Everyone knows Airstreams from the southwest are usually in the best condition. Many folks do a once a year re-fresh with the Cyclo and grade S. My Limited is overdue, but folks would still call it a polished Airstream from a distance. It still has good "reflectivity", or mirror like. The Trade Wind will hold its polish for some time. It's just that they are not like they were when the polish job was done. A polish job degrades every day it is outside.

Cyclo polishing with S takes about 6 to 8 hours on the Limited 34 footer. The Trade Wind will take less. I'm just tired of polishing right now and have moved on to other projects. Let me tell you about the new window screens I installed in the Trade Wind. Gotta keep those Minnesota skeeters out of there.

Hey, put a Cyclo Polisher on your Christmas list. You're gonna need it.

I tried replacing the shower pan. Please help.

Hey Marco if you don't mind what did the polish job run you? I ran into a truck polisher who says he has done a bunch here in San Diego, but LA isn't that far away.

Also did you remove clearcoat, remove decals and trim, etc?
