Help! Restoring a '76 Tradewind!

My boyfriend and I have recieved a '76 Tradewind for free from his grandparents! We are very excited about this, but need major help on restoring this camper. The interior is COVERED in mold. Any recommendations there? We have gutted out the interior (no paneling or rear bathroom), when the time comes what is the best approach to rebuiling the interior? Any suggestions on best building material to use?

Hi Deidra, welcome to the forums! If you have active mold growing on the inside of the trailer, I'd start with a solution of bleach water (1/2 cup to a gallon of water or thereabouts), wear a respirator and gloves, long sleeves, hat, and start scrubbing it off. If it's old mold, use a vaccuum cleaner with a good HEPA filter, respirator, gloves, and vaccuum off as much as you can, then scrub off the rest as before. You never know with mold what you have...

We had mouse leavings instead of mold to contend with, but it's still pretty icky to get it all cleaned up! Good luck and post pictures!

I hate to point out the Trojan Horse effect that I've seen on my own project trailer... No matter how clean you can make visible surfaces - painting floor and such - there is a vast surface behind the walls in the insulation holding mouse condos, mold spores and such. Crimey I hated to say that.
