Dinette Remodel in 2012 28' CCD AS

Hi...we would like to remove/replace the dinette in our nearly new AS with something more comfortable/practical. Has anyone done this already? Any ideas/advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

I had a 2006 28" CCD that I recently traded for a newer and larger unit. I found in our nearly 150k miles of the 28' that there was no comfortable place to sit, so I removed the dinette and had a chair built to fit over the wheel well (backing to the toilet wall) and a table that folds against the wall installed just forward of the chair (between the door and the chair). There is quite a bit of storage underneath the chair, with an access door to the storage. If interested in more detail let me know.

I also removed the front couch and replaced with the two lounge chairs that Airstream uses in the 30" Flying Cloud. Extended the cabinets from the sink along the street side wall forward to front of trailer. Worked well for us and ended up with more storage.

Like 28totow we found our previous 2006 28' CCD to be absolutely uncomfortable for any causal seating. We tried everything to improve the "L" bench. We finally removed the dinette bench nearest to the door to be able to use a chair which worked OK. But, we ended going to a 30' FLying Cloud and are sure glad we did.

Pictures?

28totow

I would be really interested in seeing pictures of how you managed to shoe horn the two recliners in the front of the 28. I have been thinking of doing that for some time, but because of the mechanics on the street side, didn't think I could do it. Now you have got me thinking about it again. Of course the alternative is just go out and by a 30 foot (LOL)

Thanks, look forward to seeing some pictures.

As I mentioned I traded the unit to Bill Thomas RV Sales in MO. Go on his web site and click on used Airstreams and look for Stock # 5608, 2006, 28' International CCD. His pics are well done and show the modification very well. As I mentioned, I put the dinette back in as he needed the trailer to advertise that it will sleep 4. (I ordered edge banding and drawer pulls from Airstream - i wanted it to look factory.)

The two chairs are the stock items for the Flying Cloud model. Can be purchased from Villa International located in Cerritos, CA. Ask for Michael Ramirez, he sells to Airstream. They fit very well and sit higher than regular recliners - necessary to look out the windows.

Update to dinette....

Hello...I wanted to share some pics of our dinette update. I included a picture of the old one below. Today the cabinet maker came and installed the new buffet we designed with a pull-out table and a place to house a microwave. We still need to stain the top...but I LOVE it...and know it will be so much nicer to sit here and linger over morning coffee...;o).

Your dinette replacement looks great! The thread below shows how we replaced the dinette and L-couch in our 2009 28ft Ocean Breeze . The replacement loveseat is a double recliner. We have since covered the storage bins with grass-cloth wallpaper similar to the covering on our light shades. Need to add some new pics

Our remodel (pics start about half way down the first page)
