We bought our '73 Sovereign a couple years ago. Spruced it up enough for some weekend camping, but now it's time to get down to business and gut the rear bedroom, fix some leaks, replace the subfloor, possibly reweld some of the frame where there are likely rust issues. You know... basically, everything.

The hubs wants to change the way the electrical is set up. (Our cord keeps flopping out of the bumper compartment while we're driving.) And we also plan to convert it from twin to queen, which shouldn't be a problem since we're gutting the whole back end anyway.

We haven't decided whether to gut the back end and work our way forward or gut the whole thing.

You did exactly what a encourage new owners to do. Congratulations!

Buy your trailer. Camp in it. Learn it. and THEN decide how you want to improve it.

When we first started, we chose one major project each year to improve. That way we didn't lose a camping season being "out of commision".

I think I would pull the bedroom, fix the floor frame and elec. Then build your queen bed. Then keep camping!

So it's possible! That's great news. We really want to fix it right and not just spruce it up, but it was important to me to first live in it as I didn't grow up RV camping and have never owned a camper, Airstream or otherwise. Plus, I love camping so it's hard to get used to the idea that we won't have it to use. Which is really a big reason why we haven't done anything yet.

If we need to remove skins to fix insulation or electrical, will taking it one "room" at a time be an issue?
