I need to replace the three wooden "Walter of Wabash" wooden table slides that extend and support the side couch/bed (I hesitate to use the term "gaucho") in our 1967 Caravel. Has anyone had success finding a suitable substitute? Can I make these myself with a router and dovetail bit?
Thanks!

I had success making these. You need a very hard wood for it to work though. I used exactly the method you mention in your post and found a bit that matched the original slides. I was able to reuse the small wooden dove tail inserts along which the slides slide. I have also tried the ones from Vintage Trailer and they worked too. The only drawback to them was that their method of doweling involved a single long dowel rather than the multiple smaller ones used by the originals. This means that your gaucho will loose an inch or so in its extension ability. Good luck! Flash
