I have heard of them as a factory option in the late 70's trailers.

I found it missing! There is a picture in the owner's manual for the '78 Excella. They were mounted along the floor, often rearward of the fridge. They used a mosler type two key (master and slave) set-up. I had a box made and found a safety deposit lock with keys on eBay. It slides into a steel box mounted robustly to the floor. It's hard to find and hard to open-two pluses. Since the keys are flat, I just xeroxed them so that I have a paper pattern in case I lose a key. Had to have the safe for completeness if nothing else!

Po;s used it alot, I am unable to figure out how to open it just yet. When I have some spare time, Ill lay on the floor, with my 8 track playing and fiddle with it. The keys are odd shaped and long.
They work like a safety deposit lock. The key towards the middle is the long one, it's the master. Put it in and turn it. The short key on the end (to the left) is the owner key, it will turn and release the safe once the master is put in and turned-just like in a bank.
