Best bet, I'd say, is to find a sympathetic fellow 40's owner, and convince them to let you have theirs duplicated. The nice thing is that once there's a mold... it could benefit many people!

Get a Hemmings Motor News. In the advertisements for services you can find data plate restorers...many of these businesses can make a photo engraved copy of your plate...You will have to have the artwork for them to use....in aluminum or brass. I have had these brass plates made for antique airplanes many times.

I'm almost certain that's a cast piece. It could be reproduced in aluminum with brass paint (would avoid the whole oxidation-via-dissimilar-metals problem) and despite my dislike for all things plastic... doing this in plastic or resin and then dipped or painted might be downright cheap! Certainly would adhere nicely to the curved panel, too.

Brad for sure aluminum would work with paint and I would be happy but brass polished would look so cool we will just have to wait and see. I know just the company who could make them, I have had other things made buy them and I think they could do this emblem also.

James

James, if you do go that route - it's probably enough of an effort that it'd be worth commissioning a dozen or so of them. You'd have them to sell to others then, keeping the next guy from replicating all hard work and research.

I'll enjoy seeing what you come up with!

Thank you so much for posting the link. I'm so happy that such a good reparable company is making the emblems also.
