Next up were the End caps. The original ones were badly damaged and it was very difficult to rebuild the floor with pretty much nothing left in one corner.

here some more pix

here a short list, of what i got on my “to do” list for the next several weeks:

- re-skin of door and inner door, replace hinges.
- replace 4 roof panels from the end caps .
- remove all winder frames, clean, polish and reseal.
- rebuild windows
- rebuild door frame.
- find new rain gutter
- patch refrigerator vent hole
- build new wheel wells

I have bought a bead-roller online with a bunch of dies, but non are giving me the correct bead that i need for the panels.
i will probably take one of the larger rollers and turn it down, until i got the right shape..
I’ll keep you guys updated.

as usual feel free to comment.

btw.. i need one window frame .. i have the base frame but not the two individual fold up windows... anybody has some?

She's really coming along nicely. I appreciate the pics since I've got pretty much the same project ahead of me. Keep us posted on the bead roller as well. That's an important detail to get right.

Thanks,

Charly

Nice work. I've got a 1949 I'm trying to restore, so the pictures are very useful.

thank you for the compliments.

This evening after i got home from my “regular” job, i decided to work on my bead roller.
The smallest dies, that came with the roller were still too large, so i took two straight dies and turned them on the lathe, until i had both parts to where i thought they might work.
after a couple test runs on the roller and comparison to the camper, i think i am where i need to be. Unfortunately it got to dark to take a decent picture, but ill post what i got so far.

here the pics from where i was turning down the dies:

here the current end-result with the dies installed on the bead roller and the last test piece i did. Unfortunately the comparison picture on the camper got too dark, but i think it is looking good.

As you can see on the assembled rollers, i left a small lip on the back of the negative roller. This will help to keep the skin aligned while running through the rollers.

Cool work on the custom bead roller. I made a rear fence to help keep my stuff aligned.

A bead roller is a very frustrating tool, it's more of an art than a science.

Just got through the whole thread. Wonderful work, I'm jealous, would love to have some covered space to work in. You have some serious metal working skills.

thanks for the compliment.
Unfortunately i do not have a enclosed area either yet, to park the AS. All i have is my carport and a small work shed for my tools.
But since i will start pollishing soon, im surely thinking of investing in a large cover, ie metal carport..

i started yesterday removing all the bend panels on the left rear end cap.
Luckily this camper is old enough and those panels are not compound curves.

After tracing them out, I cut them and then used the old panel as template to drill all the holes. I actually used glecos to hold both panels together while drilling. This way i could ensure, that everything goes together just like the factory has it done.
It took me about 10 hrs to cut all 4 panels and to get them in place.

Nice work, Submariner.

If anybody knows a source for the front and rear window frames, I'd love to hear, too. I'm working on restoring my 1949 Liner and my front and rear window frames are in bad shape.

How have I missed this thread til now?

Nice work!

Way to get in there and just get it done.

As far as the window frames go , you might think about using a shrinker/ stretcher to duplicate the curves.

I misunderstood "window frames", a shrinker/stretcher won't work I don't think, but it might work for the gutters if they are curved.
