Are these people crazy?
An EBAY ad for a 1950 "Airstream" (which it aint) Clipper.
1950 Silver Streak Clipper, Airstream travel trailer | eBay
A frantic feeding frenzy is going on. Do these folks realize they are still 20 to 30 thousand dollars and two years away from a nice usable rebuild? Plus at least a thousand, my guestimate, to just get it to a home or, heaven forbid, a Port. I suppose I should be glad the price in these seems to have climbed...but this is ridiculous.

Heh... yeah, and the reserve isn't even met at $10,155. What would you say it's worth in its apparent current condition with acrylic windows?

Speaking of windows....The front and rear windows here are horrible for leaks. I guarantee the floor is shot and probably the ferrous tube centered below. The windows are reinforced to the skin with 1/4 in plywood frames...wanna bet those are long gone? The paper left on the plastic windows is baked on...the plastic is shot as well. There is a 1/4 in channel which surrounds the window on the aluminum skin...used to hold the plywood frame in place...it looks like the one is broken or missing. All this leads to the fact that there is way more to this than the neophite can see or anticipate. Then there is the pipe frame. Then the floor. Then the interior. etc., etc.

The door handle looks good, so that's a plus.

That ticks me off. That is a downright false representation of an item for sale on Ebay.
I sent the seller a message on Ebay pointing out that his trailer is not, or ever was, an Airstream.

He may tire of such messages. I sent a similar one earlier today. Our disapproval aside, unless he's too dumb to lower his reserve he'll make a pretty penny, misrepresentation and all.

1952 Silver Streak at $20k plus.
Maybe on the earlier design one could say: CURTISS_WRIGHT: as modified by Airstream and Silver Streak.

I saw this yesterday in town. It's not for sale.
I emailed pic to a friend along with the Ebay listing for the Silver Streak.
We both think the lines are so cool. He wondered if one couldn't duplicate one with new materials. After walking thru Colaw Salvage, I wonder if one could use a new frame, keep mid section and slope the front and rear ribs to get the "Jules Verne" look. I'm thinking it'd be like a rat-rod or an outlaw 356.
In other words, not a real Airstream, but kind of like "Creedence Clearwater Revisted".

So perhaps there is justice in the universe. Hopefully the seller will set the reserve at 12k next time and the max bid will be 11,900.
(I never, ever claimed to be nice.)

Crazy, no, probably mis-informed
I think that episode of american pickers may have gotten some consumers overly excited, making them believe that if they put in a little elbow grease they will have something that is worth 40-60k....

I also saw this one on Ebay and got excited watching the bids. I have the exact same trailer only in a little better shape and layout. Maybe it's time to sell! Not knowing to much about them I thought the acrylic windows were replaced by the last owner. So these are original to the unit??? Does anyone know for sure
