Customizing/Blinging out a Tommy
Hi everyone......I mentioned in another thread, that if not for the Tommy Bahama version, we would not own an airstream (thank you airstream!).......anyway, the only issue the “decision maker” (you know who had with it was the somewhat cramped living area......to her, the dinette felt cramped and diner booth like.....she really wanted it to feel more relaxed, Tommy like, and easier to stretch out.....so, to close the deal on getting me an airstream, I assured her I could make it what she wanted (and me too)......so here it goes....these are the changes/improvements we made to make it ours.....

So...to continue......here’s a list of what we did so far......
1. Added some neat rope ties to curtains.....looks fitting and adds a touch of flare....plus makes them “smaller” when closed and tied....
2. Added a custom small round table in place of the standard large rectangular version......for us, a HUGE improvement.....opened up the space big time!...and plenty big for us.....now, if you lay down, the tabl3 isn’t “in your face”.....
3. Added a custom slatted back rest to the rear of the dinette!.....waaaay cool!....made the “diner booth” a lounge!.....
4. Added new seat cushion under the new back rest to finish the deal....wow, amazingly more comfy......
Pics in next post😊

WOW!... I was just discussing with my decision maker on how to have a more comfortable lounge area... you hit a home run on this... I hope you can post on who/where/how/how much... I'd like to mimic your efforts. Thanks so much for posting!

You might also try the yachty way of having table that the sides fold in for "cocktail" mode, and out when dining.

I think you did a great job. We have the 27 TB also and love it. The flowers in the bathroom can be a little ruff but getting use to it. again thanks for sharing.

Thanks everyone!..it’s fun to add your own touches!....here’s some details as requested.....
- Back rest was made by me of oak.....dimensions are 12”x70”....
- cushion is 30 wide x 28 deep x 5 in thick...currently the “prototype” made from foam and canvas....will have one professionally made.....
- The table is a custom top I found on eBay....24 in. Round....
- the rope curtain ties I made ..... simple knot at end and unraveled....still need to sew them to the curtain ends so they’ll stay put when untied....

Oh....and we found it more comfortable to remove the large back cushion from the left hand side and put the rh side back cushion in its place.....made seat bigger....I then replaced the rh back cushion with a piece of 2” high density foam....this also made that seat deeper and overall more comfy.....

Goal was to make it so that it could still be returned to “factory” configuration...which we were able to do....we are amazed how much better it made it for us....the back rest is not fastened in any way....simply sits on top of the cushions and has felt tabs where it contacts the screen tracks.....

Great Job. Your correct as the table does seem big in ours also. I have to sit on the long seat otherwise I feel crushed between the table and the seat. If you crack the back open, it would be great to lounge inside with the new seat cushion installed and have a place to put the cocktail. Nicely done.

I love your creativity!
We, too, felt like we wanted a bit more flexibility in our 23D dinette area. So, I made a table that folds: [approximately] "half size" for morning coffee, afternoon tea, or just hanging out, and "full size" for mealtime. The table, in either its folded or full-size configuration is much sturdier than the factory table. Works for us.

Balbers, very nice! We are doing something very similar to our TB. Did you ever get the cushion made and if so - who made it for you?
