TW on Globetrotter

Has anyone with a new Globetrotter actually weighed the tongue. I know the stated weight is 820#.

I'd like to refresh this request for actual Globetrotter tongue weights now that some of you have received them from the factory.

The front bedroom layout (which provides a lower tongue weight) puts the Globetrotter on the high side of a "tolerable tongue weight" trailer for my tow-vehicle, which has a total vehicle payload limit of 1380#s combined with a trailer weight max of 7700 pounds (its an older Cadillac Escalade ESV).

Looks like most of the other front bedroom 27' Airstreams share in relatively lighter tongue weights as well...

FWIW - our 2014 Flying Cloud 27fb twin just documented 800 lbs of tongue weight at an Escapees SmartWeigh session. Pretty much the same coach as the GT with different decor.

We got that weight while connected to our F150, fully loaded for travel (truck and coach), with our ProPride hitch dialed in for a level connection and 100% weight returned to front axle. (FALR?)

I just found out about SmartWeigh this winter as well. We actually have an Escapees RV park South of us, and this park has a "Weigh Station" setup there with a trained guy that does it all winter for a small fee. You can look up Escapees RV Club for details and places that they offer the service.

Granted, my tongue weight of 800 lbs was hooked up, so that isn't like "dead weight" using a Sherline Scale or some other method of total tongue weight just hanging there. What is does clearly show is that the 800 lbs is what the truck is feeling/carrying at the rear axle (with other portions of the weight distributed to the coach axles). The SmartWeigh process that I experienced was only weighing one axle at a time, but very thorough. He weighed the truck loaded by itself, then both truck axles and both coach axles connected and with W/D hitch dialed in to normal specs. Very interesting and revealing information.

In our case, we are in good shape even when rather heavily loaded (well, heavy for us, no golf cart in the bed ) on all our numbers. I was pleased, and more confident than ever that a properly spec'd half ton truck with a properly dialed-in W/D hitch can easily handle a sub-8000lbs Airstream.

I'm guessing the Barcelona Blue will be heavier than the London Grey, because the London Grey is a much... lighter... interior

I have a 2018 Globetrotter 27FB with factory solar/ twin beds / 2 AC's and power awnings. My tongueweight fully loaded for travel was 1,048 with weight distribution and 1,088 w/o WD.

I tow with a 2018 GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax diesel. My #'s are posted in a recent thread in the Towing and Hitches forum.

the TW on my 2016 27 FB International Serenity weighs in at 835 lbs on a Sherline scale. That is with the stock Interstate batteries and both propane tanks full.

It is interesting reading the differences in tongue weights from 800lbs – 1048lbs. I’m sure they are all accurate when taken and it just illustrates you have to weigh your TT with your options and equipment added and TV with your hitch, loaded as you travel to determine if you are within specs. I had used 1,000lbs TW as an estimate when looking for a TV so when I got a TW of 1048 I was pleased that I was within what I had used in my estimates. Mine had a full tank of water, full propane, full diesel fuel, hitch attached to TV when TV weighed alone, clothes, food, tools, and everything I take on a camping trip. I use an Equal-I-zer hitch with 5 washers.

I recently learned from another GT owner that there are some other adjustments I will probably make. The manual for the hitch states the bracket should be 32” from the center of the tow ball. If there are obstructions, then it can be within 25-32”. My brackets were at 29” and 28.5”. His were at 28” and 30” so they were not equally spaced either. The propane line is an obstruction on one side. However, this other GT owner was able to place his at 31” on both sides.

I’m guessing, that moving the bracket further away from the ball should move more weight away from the TT to the TV? I would guess this would also affect tongue weight.

Bottom line is there are a lot of variables that go into this and the only way you will know where you stand is to go to the scales. In the meantime, it appears 800 – 1048 are the estimates to use.

Sold my 23D and have on order a 2019 GL twin with 50 amp dual air. My question has to do with my Equal-I-Hitch. I will order parts and re use what I have but can't guess on what weight bars to get.

It appears that the 1,000 lb bars would do but would the 1200 bars be to heavy?

Where can I find 1100 lb bars? Kidding

Hi, you will most likely need a hitch with 1,000 lb. bars, but they will not work with your hitch. You will need the bars, the sockets, and the head. Everything except for the "L" brackets.

~1020 lbs fully loaded as weighed with a Sherline scale. The Cat scale load on the axles was 6340. We have a 27’ Globetrotter with the queen bed and one A/C unit.
