Latch repair on sink access panel
When we got home from picking up our GT we noticed the panel above the drawers that gives acces to the sink plumbing was drooping on one side. Turns out, it uses snap latches (or whatever you call them) so I was able to remove the panel. The left latch was still snapped in the cabinet latch. The screws holding in the panel pieces are too short. Also, the panel is made of particle board. I was able to use the drill press to set the depth and drill 1/4" holes to install poplar dowels with some Gorilla glue. After installing the dowels in the broken latch I checked the other side and the screws were on the edge of being stripped/falling out. The repair went smoothly except I should have marked the location of the first latch to make the screw locations easier. I did on the second one but I had to take measurements to locate the first one. I am writing because I think anyone with a new GT should perform this repair. The short screws in particle board will not hold. Just make sure to mark the location of the latches before you drill the holes. A center punch worked great setting the screw location. Sorry, no pics.
