Galley sink water filter?

So we are in the process of buying our first Airstream (delivery in September). We originally were on the path to a FlyingCloud but liked the finishes in the GT much better.

One thing I noticed in the options and in videos has been there is no mention of a water filter on the GT (as compared the the FC). Can anyone confirm it’s absence/presence?

Thanks!
Derek

Not able to answer your question but I will say we removed the filter in our flying cloud and now use a filter at the water hookup, providing for filtered water prior to entering our unit.

Get the Camco filter that goes on the outside at the water line. It filters everything in the entire AS that way and requires no modifications.

Whole Trailer Filter

Thank you both...That's exactly what we'll do.

Thank you for the information as well. I was told that the ASs no longer are fitted with water filters. Glad to see the reference to an external one.

Agreed. We had a filtered water dispenser on our Limited. We don't miss it at all. It really was kind of a pain to remove and install when winterizing. We do use the Camco filter at the pedestal connection. Does a good job of preventing grit from building up in the system.

Our 25FB had a water filter for the kitchen sink. A noble idea but it leaked! It came with a bypass tube which got installed immediately after. That leaked too once in a while until I really cranked down the fittings. That experience has lead me to religiously turn off the water at the hookup if we leave for more than an hour.

The filter under the sink was to get rid of the holding tank taste correct?
How is that being dealt with now?

Well, I never thought of that! We don't ever (and I mean EVER) drink what comes out of the holding tank. I just can't trust that some nasty algae didn't find a way to grow down there over the winter. I usually fill to 25% with some Clorox mixed in and use it for toilet water while on the road. But you're totally right, if you want to filter and drink what's in the holding tank, the external filter won't do it.

Wait! If you use the external filter, when you go to fill the holding tank, you just do it with filtered water. That leaves the matter of trusting what's already down in there though.

I think they are saying they use bottled water to drink. Filter INTO the tank and use the tank for showers, toilet etc.

I would like to know who/ how many still use the under sink filter and if they have any tips.

We have both filters. The outside doesn’t filter as much and you can get really good ones...

What type of under sink do you use?

My solution.

We had an 'Everpure' filter.. installed in 1999 when Mjolnir was built. As it would have it, there are no filters 'available' or manufactured for our filter head assembly... or this post may never have happened.

Here is a link... it is a 3M filter head at Lowes:

https://www.lowes.com/pd/3M-Single-S...tem/1000068813

The filter removes most of the stuff we are concerned about..
- Reduces 99% lead reduction and microbial cysts for healthy living filtration
- Lead and microbial cysts may or may not be in your water
- Provides enhanced reduction of chlorine taste and odor, sand, sediment, rust, and soil
- Installs in less than 30 minutes
Maintains high water flow at 1.5 gallons per minute and requires no dedicated fa- ucet head
- 1,500 gallons capacity with a 6-month filter life

This is the filter cartridge... # 790058 Model # 3US-MAX-F01H

Obviously there will be plumbing changes.. Time will tell how it holds up to RV life...

Since there is no 'lock' to secure the cartridge, I used a long velcro strap, looped from top to bottom and back up. It fits into some grooves on the bottom of the filter element. Rotation should be minimal.. again, the trip to International will show any issues.

I also carry a few PEX components which I used for the install. It helps to be near a plumbing store for the install... because while most fittings are there for a new install, your situation may be different where you want to install, etc.

There are some 'kit's you can buy for 'sink water dispenser'.. as well as small Osmosis systems.. if you have need for the best water filtration...

Be well
