Shurflo water pump

We've had our FC 26RB for 3 yrs now and always do full hook ups so I've never used the fresh tank but once to try it when new and just now cause we're camping late in the year, there's freeze warnings so the place were at required unhooking water hoses. I turn the pump on and it sounds like a dang jackhammer! Is this common? It's working and all but I can't imagine a LOUDER pump. Maybe from lack of use? Or might it be going bad? Anyone else experience this issue? I can't believe this is normal..

Depending on the layout of the RV, routing of the plumbing, etc. some pumps are louder than others. Our trailer is relatively quiet. Our van is relatively noisy.

Airstream has a flexible hose kit that makes many pump systems more quiet. It helped in our trailer. If your unit doesn't have the flexible hose it may be worth the investment. Probably less than $25.

You may have air in the line and this will add to the noise. Here's the method to minimize air in the line as best as I can recall it from an Airstream seminar...

Turn off the pump. Turn on all the water faucets to middle temperature setting so combined hot and cold water run through the faucets. Allow the water to come to a trickle or stop. Turn on the pump so water starts flowing through all the faucets. Allow water to run through the toilet too. You will likely get some spit-spit-spit through the faucets, this means trapped air is escaping. One by one turn the faucets full hot and full cold to ensure trapped air has escaped. Beginning at the faucet closest to the pump turn it off, then the next faucet and the next.

If you had trapped air the pump may be more quiet after this procedure and may run less often. YMMV.

The silencer kits are available from ShurFlo and Valtera and probably other brands too. I see them listed on Amazon, at Camping World and likely to be found at mom & pop RV suppliers too. Of the ShurFlo and Valtera pictures shown below I like the idea of the full-loop shown in the Valtera picture. That is very similar to the kit we installed in our trailer. The ShurFlo hoses shown in the picture appear to be very short but may work just fine.

Sincere thanks...my primary concern was possibly having a defective pump. We use it so infrequently, it isn't worth the hassle right now to quiet it. I'm just surprised that AS installs water pumps that make this kind of racket..

I had the same issue.....I think it might be a trapped air pocket.
