Air conditioner fan always runs

My 2016 FC24 air conditoner blows cold air and keeps our unit cold in 90 degree weather, but the fan never turns off although the unit is set on Auto for the fan. Is this normal?

The fan will continue to run on Auto until your trailer reaches the set point of the thermostat. If it is really hot outside the AC may not be able to cool your coach to the temperature you have set.

A lot depends on the type of thermostat in your Airsteam. In my Safari setting the control on the air conditioner housing to auto, only cycled the compressor. Not the fan. In my Classic the thermostat on the wall actually shuts down the compressor and fan when the temperature hits set point. It's just a matter of the sophistication of the AC unit and how it's being controlled.

Mine is always on when selecting low or high fan speeds. If auto is selected, the fan shuts off with the compressor.

Hi

On my Classic, the thermostat shuts everything off once you hit temperature on auto. As mentioned above, that may not be true for all models and years. With it in the 90's out in the sun and a single AC operating, my system never would get to a set point in the low 70's. In that case it would just run forever and ever. I bought a magnetic thermometer and keep it on the fridge to monitor what is what in the trailer. Trying to figure out how hot/ cold it actually was from the thermostat ... not so much ....

Thanks all for the replies. I did a system reset on the heating/air conditioner controller. After that every thing worked as I thought it should. Now when the AC is on with a fan setting of auto, it turns off the fan when the temperature inside reaches what I set the temperature at on the thermostat.

Hi

Glad you found the problem and it didn't involve a trip to the dealer !!!

A year from now somebody will find this thread and say "that's the exact problem I have !!!". I will bet at least a half can of warm beer that their next question will be "how do I perform a system reset?"..... so I'll ask now - how is it done?

So I will ask. How do you do a reset? I am seeing a similar situation on my 2018 FC 23FB

The procedure should be spelled out in the thermostat's instruction manual in your AS briefcase. Usually the stat is a Dometic, and here are the search results for "Dometic stat hard reboot" using the blue search box above:

https://www.google.com/search?q=dome...=airforums.com

If the stat is not a Dometic, you can do a similar search with the appropriate terms.

Good luck,

Peter

The manuals I got for most appliances and systems were more like pamphlets... "here is the on button, that button is ... without real context for function or actual use. I mean if you buy an appliance you get all kinds of literature, appliances in the Airstream? It's like the manufacturer says nah... the dealer will deal with it...

Have you read the pamphlet/manual for your thermostat? The Dometic ones spell out the hard reboot in detail, as I recall. You may have a different mfg..
