following too.

has anyone "road tested " those grates. Should we worry about bounce and broken glass top?

Good point. Absolutely you should worry about the grates moving about while in tow.[emoji15]Sadly we haven’t traveled since installing them. We plan on placing some silicone trivets between the grates and closed glass lid. Also will place a pad between the front of the grill and the inside front ledge of the cover. Our grates are pretty snug but you never know according to Murphy’s Law. I might add tabs to secure the grates. All things considered as I go, install depends on the individual’s install modifications like how much one sands off the sides - will they be snug or loose? Will you use rubber pads or strips along contact surfaces to prevent scratching and movement? Will you paint the sanded areas with high temp paint to prevent rusting? I used to be a truck body fabricator/mechanic so that experience may make me a little more savvy than others. Install is a guideline and everything else is up to you.

Cheers!

FYI I have long thought that this thread should be pinned. It has lots of good mod possibilities that I think most new owners would appreciate. I have referred to it a number of times.

Is that something the moderators have to do>

Looks like a great solution. I still need to replace the factory stove/oven with a better product.

2016 27' Flying Cloud - We Made Some Changes

Just replaced the mattress in our 27 FB International. Went with a Mattress Insider 8” foam. We chose the standard 60x75 with a 10” radius and it fit perfect. Got the cover and fitted sheets too.

I laid down on it after installing it and letting it breathe for a few hours. I actually fell asleep for 30 min when I tested it - it was that comfortable.

Impressions from a few nights on it are that it feels great but in retrospect I might have wanted to go with the 10” version. When I’m crawling around on the mattress my knees can feel the plywood platform but when I’m laying down it is a non issue as the mattress supports me just fine even when I turn on my side. A 2” layer of firm foam would solve that issue.

Thanks for the info on this grate. Now that you have lived with it awhile do you have any comments to add?

Did you modify the feet it rests on? Has it shifted while underway?

We installed a Kohler soft closing toilet seat! Only had to make a small modification to the vent tube shroud that’s between the seat hinges. Could have left off the cover but we think it looks nicer with it.

I added the Kohler soft-close seat as well but opted for the one with the LED light option. Really helps to focus your aim in the dark 😏.
