PS -- TCwheels, are you going to have to modify the battery box for the Group 29's mentioned earlier? Thanks

From what I understand reading other threads about the change from Group 24s to 29s or 31s a battery box conversion is not actually necessary if one installs the batteries on the opposite orientation from stock.

Started working on the itinerary for the San Diego loop and we’re hoping to grab two nights at Crystal Cove (thanks subfan1 for the great referral!). The original plan was for 5 nights at Elijio SB or S Carlsbad SB as both would be close to SD…especially Elijio (Cardiff). Seems Elijio is closed for 2 weeks for water system repairs : (( and S Carlsbad which has limited hookup spaces, is booked. I suspect demand at both sites (w/ hookups) requires advance planning....ext time. Home base may be Silver Strand just S of Coronado. As long as it’s close to El Indio, and Dog Beach (OB Jetty) we’re good.

Peter check out the nice left tube in the Elijio brochure…..possibly one of your old haunts. Note the scale of the wave & the surfer heading out. Toto, I don’t think we’re at Swami’s any more… maybe not even SD County.

Wishing everyone and happy and healthy holiday season.

Could be Windansea I guess. Too big and clean for a North San Diego County beach break, except under very limited conditions, at least according to my fading memory banks!

Probably just a stock photo they have on file.

The 15" Marathons are just about at their maximum carrying capacity on the single axel 20'. The 16" Michelins have a higher carrying capacity so the tires are not constantly being stressed to their maximum.

On our 20' with 15", I was constantly checking and adjusting the tire . Once I changed to 16" I found they never needed adjustment. It was probably the best upgrade I made.

Windansea... not many lefts of significance on the coast and like you said "at least according to my fading memory banks!" For Sure. I hadn't really thought about it until I realized on out laptop the pdf is 50%...oh and that's not a fly in the pic. It just looked like an awesome wave, the I realized the scale.

Working on this loop planning, I wish I had firmed up dates and made some earlier reservations so could have stayed at Elijio, but I suspect the greater SD will be a repeater for us and there will be many more opportunities.

One of the most exciting and rewarding aspects of being on the road again, in my opinion, is heading out with incomplete plans. Things always work out, even if you have to go to a funky little campground off the beaten track for a night or two.

There can be magic in exploring, in playing the hand you are dealt . . .

PS Bob, my last post seemed to have missed conveying the sense of excitement that comes with heading out for a journey, even if the plans are incomplete! I am stoked for your upcoming trip, and a bit envious that our next outing will probably be after winter here in the NE. Sorry if my earlier comment seemed a little like a lecture.

If you haven't done so, continue to check for reservation cancellations at all state parks you'd like to stay at. You may have a good chance of getting a spot where you want to stay

OTRA ["You can't always get what you want, but you get what you need . . . ?"]
Someday I’ll tell you a Milton Friedman ~ William Buckley story I heard along this thread. Coincidentally this was also the quote in my 66th BD card recently. Cosmic.

I tend to lend my project management skills to vacation planning a bit too often. You’re absolutely right…key is hitting the road. Thanks for the reminder. We’re just so excited about this trip…19 day maiden voyage; Oregon to SD …to my old alma mater and where I met my wonderful wife and back home. Not to mention a nice break from the rains of late. I heard it never rains in Autzen Stadium or San Diego

Subfan1, thanks to for the reminder to recheck. Seems Crystal & SC both have openings and SD proper worked out for the better too. Not sure what’s up with Morro Bay…but I discovered Morro Strand….which has opening, bingo. One of those places you drive by a million times and you look past it at the ocean.

Thanks Bob, looking forward to hearing the MF/WB story during my CalDream16/17 trip next fall and winter! [edit -- oops, not sure if putting this notion out there is a good or bad idea?]

For everyone's enjoyment, TerryC has offered some interesting thoughts on his recent move from the FC20 to a new FC25 FB Twin here:

Terry's new trailer is discussed here also:

Pete - Well, you've let the cat out of the bag and now you have to spill the beans and come clean about the 16/17 CalDream trip! (Mixed metaphors x3 = subtle challenge)

Peter, it’s a great idea…I suspect the music playlist, which must be already spinning in your head, is well ahead of the trip planning progress. Remember, most surf shops rent boards and wet suits, how do you say Swami's here I come. CalDream 16/17…sounds like an awesome adventure! Woo Hoo!

Peter - Are you going to document your trip here? Blog? Maybe a series of YouTube videos with music...?

Thanks Bob and TCwheels, the general plan is to stay on the east coast, especially New England, for the spring and summer with shakedown trips, then head west in the fall. The On The Road sub-forum here will be a more appropriate venue IMO. Not sure about more than that for now. YouTube or blog? Probably not . . .

Thanks for all the new music Bob on the OTRA Music I thread. Will give it a listen later today.

Stereo / TV replacement?

Hi all -

Has anyone replaced the Sony Stereo in their rigs yet? The stock one makes an annoying fan or buzzing sound when its on and is really a pain in the arse to adjust. Also, it's set up for a MP3 player. I don't really need that. I'd like to find something that sounds really good and is simple to use.

Then there's the Samsung TV. It already has a vertical white streak running through it. Is there a replacement that can use the same support?

Thanks!

Having my Sony replaced next week on my 2011. New deck has Bluetooth so I don't have to mess around with connecting cables (that didn't work anyway) to iPhone or iPad. I'll post specs after install.
