Water Filter, Softener, Regulator
We have a 2018 Classic. Getting ready to hook-up a new water softener. What is the recommended sequence for using filter, softener, and regulator?

That the order I go also.
The softener will change your life! Just love the quality of the water we have now. Just remember if you are also filling your freshwater tank to use the softener.

I'm interested in a "high flow" filter, appreciate learning your choice and performance.

look for any HIGH flow filter at a plumbing or big box store
We added a new brass pressure regulator vs the stock AS unit
The three red valves in the picture or for bypass mode. ie when we replace the filter, we turn all three valves and that bypasses the filter

Pretty much all Airstreams have one, but It only protects the internal plumbing from overpressure.
A good regulator at the campground connector protects the drinking water hose from overpressure. Important when campground pressure is very high. Helps prevent a burst hose.

Thank you. We’re thinking we’ll go for the 33 queen and are trying to figure out where a softener could go.

I was in the water filter & softener (for RV) business for 5 years, Premier Aqua Solutions, based in Illinois. I attended many AS rallies as well as most of the other clubs and RV shows in FL & PA. I use a pressure regulator at the faucet to keep the pressure on the hoses to 50 psi maximum. Next is a 10 micron sediment filter, either string wound or melt blown foam, then the water softener, then a 10 micron carbon block filter, then into the AS. The carbon block is recommended to remove taste, odor, and chlorine which will pass the sediment filter and softener. The sediment filter is checked periodically and replaced when discolored, usually due to rust or other sediment. The carbon block filter will last 2 times as long with a sediment filter ahead of it. The softener was purchased from G & L RV Specialties, rvfools@yahoo.com.

+2 Pressure regulator, filter, softener, in that order. While the AS does have a pressure regulator as standard I use one at the campground source to protect the hose!!

Ditto on the sequence on the add-on’s and buried somewhere in all the Alde paperwork you might find that Alde suggests a lower pressure than what AS installed. It’s been a couple of years since I read the owners manual so I don’t remember the exact numbers. AS may have adjusted the regulator since 2017 but I am more concerned about protecting the Alde system than a ruptured external water hose, although that would be unpleasant too.
