Tuft and Needle Mattress question

When my 2019 Classic 33 was delivered, it had the older style mattress. I've now just received the Tuft and Needle Mattress that it was supposed to come with. My concern is that the box says it's for a Globetrotter (which I don't believe has an inclining bed).

Can someone with the Tuft and Needle mattress tell me if their mattress has a 'hinge' or anything to help it bend when you use the power incline feature? The T&N I just received is a regular mattress and I don't see how it can bend for the bed incline. The old mattress I gave back to the dealer did have a hinge design.

We have a Tuft n Needle store in our mall here in Raleigh NC. They have one of their mattresses on display and it is on a reclining frame. I think you should be ok but you can contact them to see if there is a difference between the standard mattress and the one on the adjustable display. After all this is a foam mattress not an inner spring.

Thanks. That's what I feared. Any chance you could take a picture so I can show the dealer?

Hi

If the box says Globetrotter that should be enough of a clue that it is the wrong mattress.

The ones in the 2017 twin most certainly have a break in them. They are thinner over the mechanism that raises your head.

Agreed. It seems obvious but then I wonder why my dealer went through the trouble of delivering the wrong one to me. I'll reach out to them and see what is their response.

In addition to having the hinge, the twin mattresses in the Classic are 36” wide while the ones in the Globetrotter are 34”.

Hi, I have a 2018 33 twin. Not happy with the mattresses. For those that have the new mattress how do you like them? Mine lacks support.

Thanks, Ed

Hi

We have the previous "upgraded mattress" in our 2017. The wife is not happy with it. We are looking for something that is a bit more firm. So far in the "searching" thread I started, there does not seem to be a magic answer.

I'm still waiting for Airstream to send my T&N mattress. I'll report back when I finally get it.

Mattress Comfort

We're in the process of downsizing from a (previous) 45' Diesel Pusher Motorcoach to a towable and keenly interested in the Airstream Product. This is driving us to have joined this Air Forum and read-up, research, and learn about their design, functionality, quality and component performance.

One question we have concerns the bed. If we purchase an AS it will be with the FB option; so hence the question we have (and desire answers from those AS owners whom are experienced with the "facts") are (1): JUST HOW COMFORTABLE are the FB mattresses AS provides in its late model 28-31' TTs?, and (2) Have any owner's deemed it necessary (or preferred to) replace the OEM's mattress with another residential style coil mattress?

FWIW, my wife has severe and chronic orthopedic issues which warrants she sleep on a comfortable mattress (our former Motorcoach has a sleep number adjustable of which we used a 2" gel-foam mattress topper on and was extremely comfortable).

Has anyone used a mattress topper UNDER the stock mattress?
Since the sideways queen is oddly shaped, I thought it would work better under.
Perhaps buy a sheet of foam and carve the shape.
(In mine the foot has an 11" radius curves and the head is angled because the trailer tapers to the rear.)

Rewillia,
FWIW, my wife has similar issues as yours. Our new T&N 38x80 mattress is excellent for her sleep/rest. Best ever! We ordered one for our home last week.

In our former DP motorcoach, we purchased Sleep Numbers' 2" Cool-Fit Gel Foam Mattress pad, then marked it us to conform to the radial end corners of the SN mattress, then took it to an upholstery shop where they trimmed it and altered the zippered cotton cloth cover for it to fit, paid $50 for the alteration but it fit perfectly after that on top of the mattress. In fact, it made for the fitted bottom sheet(s) to fit even better, nice and taunt/flat.

If we move to an AS (current planning, and purpose of us being new Air Forum members, i.e. research, learning, gaining knowledge of the AS(s), then will likely do the same in terms of mattress comfort if it turns out that the OEM mattress (FB) is not to our suiting.

The T&N mattress killed my hips as I’m a side sleeper. I purchased a 4” gel topper Form Bed Bats Beyond and cut it myself to fit.
