SS exterior cover locks

During the dealer PDI, they had to work on the exterior shower hatch. I'd did not close or open without difficulty, due to the mounting screws along the hinge interfered with the lid edge. So the dealer removed the screws and replaced with rivets. It still has an issue with the locking latch not fully engaging the keep 100% closed. It moves about 3/8" in and out, even with the lock closed.

Better, but yesterday during sticker removal day, I was wiping the lid and water started leaking out. More than enough to account for the past rain. I finished the sticker removal and went get the keys to work on the leak.

Well, none of my small black keys will open the shower hatch. They open every other SS hatch though. And I know it was open at one time because I saw the tech working on it.

Is there a separate exterior shower key for the SS hatch door?

I just can't get the keys to turn at all, but goes in fine.

Dumbfounded.

Give it a shot of oil or graphite. Mine seem to freeze up every once in a while and the lube helps.

Hi Sphere Guy.

We have the SS waterfall and shower doors, and the same small brass key opens both.

Regarding how loosely your SS shower door is closing when locked, do you have the same relatively thick foam gaskets on the inside of the door (see attached image). On ours, it is the thickness of those gaskets that causes our door to close very snugly and seal from external water.
Hope this helps a bit.
Joe

Thanks all.

I will give a shot of oil, then try it later. Funny thing is that the key will not budge once it is inserted. I figure it may turn some, but.....

Joe, once I get it open I will check for the gasket, but right now I can't tell if it is there. From the looseness, I would say the gasket is not there. And can't remember if it was there while the tech was working on it.

Also Joe, what do you mean "waterfall" ??

Sorry, that should say "water fill" not "waterfall". (I have the Auto-Typo function turned on.) 😀

The SS outdoor shower and water fill are beautiful much better than the plastic. Did you install or were those factory?

Can you tell me if the hose to the shower head has a vacuum breaker?

I've been trying to figure out a water discharge issue (for another thread)
Sorry for the question not related to this issue!

NP Joe.

The SS covers are available from Airstream.

They are standard on the Classics.

Fishbyfly - the pictured SS upgrades were ordered from aArstream and installed by me. The SS water fill was a perfect fit, no cutting needed. The SS shower required a very small expansion to the corners of the existing hole in the trailer (done with a Dremel in about 5 minutes).

Airstream has a big sale every year in January for all the SS doors, great prices.

Thanks for that info. Another reason this forum is so nifty. I will wait for a bargain for my 03 Classic.

Now back to the original question. Are both keyed the same like the basic plastic doors?

We have an older version and thus, no lock. Turn it with a quarter. Somehow the valve did leak or possibly worked itself open and water poured out on ours when I opened the door. It must of been filled with water for some time because the hose turned white. I now check for water inside when we camp.
I'd like to replace the outside plastic AC outlet with a stainless cover however, I don't see one listed in the Airstream parts section. Anyone replaced their AC outlet cover with a stainless?

Mine are both keyed with the same CH-501 key.
