Shower mix valve stopped working

Has anyone had the shower mix valve stop mixing? I can get either scalding hot or cold water but nothing in between. It previously worked fine and flow is not changed. I tried taking the Koehler valve apart but it does not appear repairable. Any thoughts?

There was someone else on the forum that had the same problem. Cartridge should be replaceable. Relatively cheap and easy repair.

I’ve replaced cartridges at home - this does not appear to have a replaceable one

Shower mix valve stopped working

My bad - it’s not a simple plastic cartridge... but.... the 2017 classic uses a Kohler Rite-Temp 304 pressure balancing valve.

It should be serviceable though without having to replace the entire valve body.... pretty sure you can get a fully assembled mixer cap kit from one of these....

I “deactivated” ours by taking the stop out almost two years ago to provide more hot water, no issues with it, but after that had plenty of hot water

Ours did the same thing, either hot or cold with very little choice in between. Had if fixed under warranty when they rebuilt the draw on our 23FB that fell out several times due to a weak latch. Still have the weak latch, unfortunately. But now use a small adjustable shower rod from Wal-Mart to hold the drawers closed while traveling.

Call Jackson Center and have them send you a new one. Very, very easy to change out. Talk to John. Mine died right at the start but the replacement has been working great for 18 months of almost daily use.

Hi

The latches on *most* drawers are a generic item you can get on Amazon. They come in multiple weight ratings. Replacing one is usually just a matter of pulling two screws.

By no means the only / best / cheapest:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

At least that will give you an example of what I'm talking about. It's Airstream so "never the same way twice" applies. Your drawers may latch with something entirely different.

I found a reasonable work-around until I get back home where I can get it changed out. The Alde mixing valve is the same type of device- I dialed it back so the hot water is just very warm. We run the shower on the “hot” side (it will only go fully hot or fully cold) and so the water is very warm - not ideal but good enough to get us through our vacation the next few weeks.

Incidentally, on my classic, the hole in the shower wall that the valve comes through is too small to remove the larger valve cover. The only way I see to do a repair on it is to remove the wall where the bedroom TV is. If they would have bored the hole a half-inch larger it would be easy

Pete55, I sorry I wasn’t more specific regarding the mixing valve. The valve I was referring to is the one under the dinette along with all the other Alde equipment. If you are able to get warm water I’m am curious to know what the original problem is/was. You mentioned that you could get scalding hot water or very cold water but not warm. How long did the super hot water last? Less than 5 minuets or more?
The only part of the actual shower mechanisms I had to tweak was just taking the Anti-scalding device off completely which allowed me to control the water temperature at the Alde mixing valve. I don’t recall having to adjust any of the valves from Koehler. My AS was an early 2016 build (may have been among the first ones off the line) so your set up may be different.

The original problem is the shower thermostatic valve stopped mixing water and, depending on the position of the handle, delivers only either only very cold, or only very hot. The Alde works fine and is not an issue, I have plenty of very hot water. The temporary work around is to adjust the Alde mixing valve so the temperature of the hot water to the entire trailer is very warm

Got it. Now I understand and your temp fix is a great work around until you can get a permanent fix, I will be following to learn more about what fix is going to be. Hopefully the repair to the shower will smoothly when you get time.

Pete B55 - I realize this is an old post but I’m now running into this same issue in our 2017 Classic. What was the resolution to this problem? Thanks!

I had the shower valve cartridge replaced. Unfortunately on a lot of trailers, including mine, you can’t remove the cartridge from inside the shower - the bedroom wall behind the valve has to be removed to gain access.

Coincidentally, I just had the cartridge replaced for the second time in six years of trailer use. This time I was back in Jackson center and they did the work. They first thought they could replace it through the shower but ended up pulling the wall as before.

The AS part number is 602401 - Valve-Rite 1/2 “ ($285) plus 1.5 hrs of labor. Not cheap.

Hi

Two fixes depending on which of the problems you are having.

There's a mix valve under the dinette that works for *all* hot water. If the kitchen and bath faucets are doing ok, then it's not the issue.

The mix valve on the shower itself is right were you would expect it to be (behind the handle you turn to run water in the shower). It's a standard item from whoever made yours. This is AS and you never quite can be sure if it's Kohler or something else. Best bet: it's a Kohler GP876851.

Swap out of the shower valve is easy except for the size of the hole in the wall. AS drilled it about a half inch to small. You need to carefully enlarge it ....

Fun !!!
