Shower Door 2017 Classic

Shower Door in my 2017 Classic keeps dragging at bottom, is difficult to open and has destroyed the bottom gasket. I tried to adjust it, but as I travel it happens again. Does anyone have a permanent solution?

Saw Jim and Betsy sat eve, said something about a fire poker, didn't understand that either.

Tell Melinda to stop swinging on it! Seriously, this is a well known problem that A/S simply ignores. When the door falls it's because the screw that suspends it has either fallen out or broken. I got so frustrated with the cheap design that I replaced the entire door with a higher quality pivoting door that I got at Lowe's (this morning was on my 28' Intl CCD). So far, the current door hasn't done the drop routine. It will, it's just a matter of time.

Call customer service and they will send you 2 plexiglass blocks one for the hinge side and one for the opening side. Predrill them and the frame then screw them to the frame. The door is a known issue happened to me second time out on my 2016

Experiencing the same problems with my new 2017 Flying Cloud bunk. Shower is so far out of plumb it leaves a 2 inch gap at the top. Thinking about a factory visit to correct all the problems this AS had coming off the line. They should slow down and QA the trailers a little closer IMHO.

Sorry to hear about your door problem. I have had the same issue as has a lot of other owners. You should still be covered by warranty so keep taking it back to the dealer for repair. Sad to say this problem will not go away due to the poor design. I have also gone through two bottom sweeps and have now removed the door and installed a shower curtain. We had reached the point where I had to lift the door to get it open or closed whenever me or my wife used the shower ( we are full timing for three years now).
I am surprised Airstream are still using this door. It is manufactured by Praxis Group Elkhart IN. 574 266 8400. Good luck contacting them!!!.
The door design is totally unsuitable for an RV. The door hangs on a plastic plug at the top of the hinge and the plug deforms over time with the pounding it takes from road travel. If they had used a metallic plug it may last longer but I doubt it because the plug is held in place by a screw which is also holding the corner of the door together. In my case the screw bent up due to the weight of the door which made removal impossible. There is also a bottom stop which is also a plastic plug. This was corroded in place and couldn't be removed. Aluminum and stainless screws don't go well together
My advice is to keep after Airstream and get a permanent solution.
I looked at the Kholer Sterling door suggested on another post but it looks flimsy and at this time I am not convinced it is the answer. I would appreciate comments from anyone how has installed this option on it's performance

Could you let us know the model name for the door you got from Lowe's. Did you install it yourself? Thanks Bill

I put a small teflon block under the door near the hinge and that seems to solve the problem.

I have a 2004 Classic 30 footer and had the same problem. Two solutions that i found:

1. I reinforced the top left hinge, to add extra support.
2. I use a piece of styrofoam ( about 2 by 4 inch and 3/4inch thick) and slide it under the door when we are ready to travel as close a possibly to the side opposite the hinges.

I have had this "fix" for years and it works. The top of the door actually marked up the frame before I "fixed" the problem this way.

I installed the Sterling door on my 2012 28' Intl CCD. It was surely not flimsy! This door has top and bottom pivot points rather than a hinge. When the door in my Classic drops (and it will), I'll replace it with a Sterling. The hardest part of the install was removing the old door frame. It is installed with mega strong double sided tape. I ended up using a heat gun to loosen it. Sterling is Kohler's entry level brand...but still a high quality, American made product.

I called and asked and they didn't know what I was talking about. If you have a packing sheet or part #s could you let me know.

Thank you

Well I called again and left a message for warranty and Damn the same guy Craig called me back and said he did not know of blocks being shipped to customers. He even said there must be something out on one of the forums. So if you have a chance to measure what they sent and post some photos I'll figure something out.

Get yourself a block of UHMW (teflon) from a good hardware store and cut it to the size you want and screw,it in countersunk with a SS screw. Very cheap and quick fix. Place it right next to the hinge on the threshold. Works great for me and beats a new shower door!

That's the fix described to me by a tech at the local AS service center that he will do for mine. Screw into vertical sidewall, not horizontal threshold?

I talked with Jon this morning and he was very professional but he didn't offer to send any blocks. He told the were cut from scrap of another part they make. I ended up going to Lowes and got a 1/2" tall round spacer, I picked the door up a little and slid it against the door frame and let the door back down. It is drilled to have a screw mount it to the frame but for now I'm just going to let it sit there and see how it does.

Go into the nuts and bolts area, look for the drawers marked Nylon I went through and found Nylon Spacers 1/2" tall and slid it under hinge area after lifting door up. I'll shoot a photo next time I'm out at the storage.
