Since you asked my opinion, a projection TV is never as good as a flat screen.
Movie theaters are very dark. There's a reason for that. Light is the enemy of projection since the screen reflects everything.
On a projection TV the color is never quite right, and the blacks are not black enough.
The old Plasma TV's had great pictures but put out a ton of heat and consumed more power.
LCD's used a tube for backlight and so the screen was never uniform in the blacks.
Technology is forever improving, so we're not quite there yet. You can't judge a screen by saying "it's 1080P". What's the refresh rate? How is it achieved? How many inputs and outputs does it have?
You can go to Costco and buy a 70" TV for $700 or $2000. There's a reason they're different.
The bottom line is all flat screens look okay for 90% of viewers. All look better than tube TV. It's when you get to that last 10% that the difference becomes apparent.
I once had a friend over who's a video engineer. On my TV happened to be an image of a beautiful woman. He said, "OMG! That's terrible, look at the dithering in the scan and the blacks are crushed!"
I suggested he return to watching his vectorscope.
